The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix
3.0
BLURB:
Lynnette Tarkington is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre twenty-two years ago, and it has defined every day of her life since. And she's not alone. For more than a decade she's been meeting with five other actual final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, putting their lives back together, piece by piece. That is until one of the women misses a meeting and Lynnette's worst fears are realized--someone knows about the group and is determined to take their lives apart again, piece by piece.
I enjoyed this book. I rounded up to 4/5 from 3.5. The beginning was the biggest reason it did not receive a 5 star rating. The first 5-7 chapters or more were extremely confusing there was too information stuffed into those chapters that it felt cluttered. As you read the earlier chapters start to make more sense.
It felt like I was reading a horror film and I enjoyed that

I couldn’t put this book down. I went through a WHOLE box of tissues. I was heartbroken. It’s a BEAUTIFUL story. I’m obsessed with their connection their story. They are so young but love shows no bounds.

Some people need to be broken apart to allow another person to help piece them back together into something stronger.
"Don't you dare. You break for me and me alone, baby. Don't do it for them. Don't give in”
“Survive for me, J. Please”
“Break for me. And shatter me with you”
Wow. To say this book broke me and shattered me into a million pieces would be an understatement (in the best way possible). Ember, truly I thrive for your writing. When an author like yourself can put me into a book, an I can live and feel everything the characters are truly is a remarkable talent. I love how the characters are so incredibly relatable and how you depicted mental health as well as postpartum depression being represented in a small part of the book. Indy is such a perfect comic relief. And DADDY UTAH! Ugh all I’m gonna say is I’m so excited for LFM(book 3).
Jersey sacrificed his life for the two people he cared for in the world. No matter what he had to endure it was for them. Memphis and Trista would stop at nothing to get him back but it wasn’t going to be easy.
Memphis recruited a team to help them, they needed the muscle and they needed it fast. Indy was quick to help and thankfully he came with Utah. Only problem, they also work for the organization that was responsible for all their pain and problems.

This was a good story on a marriage of convenience trope. I love the connection Eros and Psyche had. I wasn’t sure at first how I was going to enjoy the second book in the series. The first 6 chapters or so I thought “here we go it’s book 1 all over again with a different sister” but it didn’t go the way I had thought it would. It didn’t get a 5 from me because it didn’t wow me but it didn’t get lower than a 4 because there isn’t anything bad I could say about it either.

Reject the boxes you’re offered and people will keep trying to shove you into them. They’ll put their labels on you and demand you adhere to them, and then if you don’t, it becomes your own damn fault that life is difficult.
This quote from the book in my opinion is the best way to describe it. The way these characters evolved throughout the story and the more you learned about their past they all suffered in so many ways and that could have led them down the wrong paths in life but they found solace in each other. Is this a smut book? Absa-fu**ing-lutely. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t such a beautiful story underneath. They way Harley wrote these characters is truly inspiring. I found myself in each one of them. I’ve seen comments that say Jess is weak but their wrong. She isn’t weak she’s struggling and theirs a difference she’s trying to find a way to figure out what she wants and who she cares to be but the heaviness of societal norms and what her mother wants is saying so heavily on her shoulders. To me that shows me she has great strength to even acknowledge or begin to acknowledge what SHE wants even though she knows “she isn’t supposed too” I’m excited to read book 2 and see where this found family goes.

Seeing Jess finally happy and living her best life made me so happy learning even more about the lives of the losers made my heart so broken, so full, and so healed in so many ways. The way I sobbed with Lucas character development in this book I resonate with him so much in book 1 and what I learned in this part literally feels like I ripped myself open. I know their story is complete but the way I crave more.
