Destroy All Monsters by Sam J. Miller
5.0
This was an exceptional book. I haven't finished a book so quickly in a long time.
From the very beginning the characters grab your attention and make it so that you just want to keep reading to find out what happens next. The way that Sam weaves the two separate realities together is nothing short of masterful. When it came to the events in the tree house I had never expected it to be so sinister as that.
It wasn’t until I was a ways into the book that I actually realized that he was talking about Hudson NY and not a fictional town. Having met Sam at an author event at Northshire Bookstore I learned he was from that area. Being from Troy there were several references to places in the book that I have actually been to, which made the book feel even more real to me.
I can’t wait to see what his next book will be. Sam is an author to keep an eye with a bright future in this industry. I can only aspire to be as well received.

Growing up in upstate New York and spending a lot of time on Lake Champlain. It was great to read about the Fort Ticonderoga and the events around it. When they moved the cannons from the fort to Boston i knew the area and terrain they crossed growing up there. When it came to the battle scenes the way they were written you could almost picture it as if you were there.

An interesting combination of stories. I really like the fact that there was an explanation section in the back since some terms and statements were relevant in the time period it was written.

For the most part I feel that the story was well told. I will admit that there were a couple of sections in the middle that seemed to drag and ultimately did not have any real effect on the story.
The ending on the other hand left a little something to be desired. the very last section was a real drag and most of it could easily have been left out of the book and it would still have been a good read. my biggest issue was the decertation about the painting and the painter. I felt that would have been better suited for an art review as come paired to a work of fiction.
I am interested to see how it is adapted for a movie.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

I feel that this was a well written book and exposes the struggles and angst of being a teenager in a world full of technology.
The biggest struggle for any teen is in finding themselves and letting the world in. This book helps to shed a light on the struggles of all the characters, more so on Simon. Ultimately the struggle he goes through and the utter loneliness that he experiences is all to real for young high school aged kids.
Granted in there current world it is more accepted than it had been in the past. However, as seen through Simon's eyes there are still struggles and intolerance in high schools to this date. The added use of internet had made it harder for teens such as Simon to keep there secret.
