Grimstone by Sophie Lark

I enjoyed the concept and plot of this book. The writing style and the connection the author can create with the characters in a quick time was good. This book didn’t have a ”boring” part per se, I’m giving 3 stars mainly because the level of smut is over rated, I would have taken out a few scenes of smut and add in some more eerie scenes, but that’s just me.
They Never Learn by Layne Fargo

The writing style of this book had me wanting to keep reading. I appreciated the short chapters with each alternating chapter giving a different story in a sense that all wrap together in the end. The story moved fast enough for me to keep me interested but slow enough to develop a deep understanding with the main characters.
If you like a revenge, mystery, and a happy ending then you’ll probably enjoy this read.

Never Saw Me Coming by Vera Kurian

This book doesn’t really get interesting until about 80% of the way through. 20%-79% Aprox. Is really just a boring “who could it be”. There wasn’t really any surprise element to this book, and if you’re a crime junkie like me you’ll probably guess the ending early on. It was still a interesting and creative read.
How Does It Feel? by Jeneane O'Riley
2.0
There were two things done well in this book. One of which being the authors way to repeat what has already been said 100 times in a different way than before and secondly the last chapter. The only thing I enjoyed about How Does it Feel was the small plot twist at the end, which is being generous. I can’t imagine how there is a second book, I won’t find out either.
Yellowface by R.F. Kuang

DNF. I don’t even want to give this book any stars TBH. I started the audio book as it’s a decently rated book. I got 3.5 / 5.5 hours into the book and couldn’t bear listening any further. All this book has been about is the main character stealing her now dead friend’s book and justifying how it’s okay she stole it and made it her own. Then starts to go into how being a white author is so hard and how she has the right to write a Chinese based book and all the criticism she gets from the minorities. If you enjoy reading a book that feels like someone obsessively complaining about their job and how hard it is to fit in then you may like this book.
The Locked Door by Freida McFadden

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: A successful surgeon with a father who is a convicted serial killer with some killer tendencies herself. Then her patients start to come up murdered, in the same way her serial killer father murdered. She’s being framed but why? And from who?
The plot twists at the end definitely had me smiling since I didn’t expect it at all.
There wasn’t anything extra ordinary about the book or the writing which is why it’s 3 stars. Still a great book, however, the narration was horrible. The narrator seemed to be in a contestant eye roll state. The other character voices were in an even deeper eye roll state. I think this is probably a better experience to physically read.

They Are the Hunters by Faith Gardner

4 stars for They Are the Hunters. #afamilythatslaystogetherstaystogether. Immerse yourself into a multi-narrative story with a picture perfect family. When Eliza finds a new best friend she quickly realizes how wrong she was about her, but then again Eliza seems to be wrong about many other things as well including who her family really is.
I enjoyed this book overall and loved how the story unfolded. The beginning was slow until about 40% through. Since it was a multi-narrative it was hard to catch on right away but by the end I was attached to the characters and realize this book would not have been as good without the multi-narrative. I appreciate the writing style, it never lingered longer than needed. I enjoyed the ending of the book that had twist after twist.

The Principle of Moments by Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson
3.0
ILLUMICRATE BOX : DNF at page 252. The Principal of Moments is a telling of an alien god who rules an alien planet that the human race now lives on. It’s also about a time traveler who is in love with a prince. Starting there the book starts telling each story every other chapter which each separate story lacked depth for me, I couldn’t connect with the characters or the world, it seemed like the author was so excited to just get everything out and spilled everything into the first few chapters. While reading this all I could compare this writing to was a group of high teenagers putting a cool story together and me observing with confusion. It’s as if all these little spurts of things happening for no reason. This book is definitely not adult it’s YA. The reason I’m giving 3 stars even though I DNF it is because this book may be great for some people, just not for me. At some point I may pick this book back up and casually skim it, but for now it will sit pretty on my shelf.
