"Are we still pretending? I can't tell anymore?"

Who doesn't love a good best friends to lovers trope? Especially when they are SO much best friends that they don't even realize they're catching feelings.

Austin, the shy ginger barista from the coffee cart, is capital A Awkward when it comes to chatting & meeting dudes he finds dreamy. All he wants is to have a love like his romance books.

Dex, the future politician, is charismatic and friendly - and commitment phobic. He's a hookup king with a heart of gold.

When FAKE DATING to help Austin gain confidence turns into "I don't know what we're doing, but I don't want to stop. " ... the lines get blurry, and both guys catch feelings. But what if it ruins their friendship?

These two were squishy and cute and awkward. They loved each other SO much, and they were such dummies. Austin gave me second-hand embarrassment, and Dex's trips to Luco Flowers made me swoon.

If you're looking for a new adult, oh my god... just kiss already, sweet and a little ridiculous love story - this may be for you! I thought it was really cute.

I was so so so happy to get back to Forestville. We love it when older mcs find love. This series has been great so far, hitting different big topics, and this was no exception.

York was significantly bullied by his brother all throughout his youth. When his older brother dies in combat, his parents are frozen in time. They've built the narrative of the perfect protector son, and they've forgotten and ignored York. Now, in his 40s, he's forced to go back to Forestville with a pretend boyfriend who is actually his bodyguard.

Quillon is the ex Marine current bodyguard. He knew York's brother and is invested in finding out why York is the way he is.

Can a genius and a bodyguard fall in love?
You bet they can.

I love a good bodyguard falling for their principal. I love a good nerd/jock trope, too. Together? CHEF'S KISS.

I loved getting to know York and Quillon. I loved seeing the mcs from previous books. I loved being back in Forestville.

If you're looking for a wonderful friend group, found family, small town goodness and a πŸ”₯ shower scene - PROTECTING THE NERD is definitely for you.

This series is great.

Just finished Antidote. If you like hate-to-love and angsty reads, this is absolutely the book for you. Antidote was stepbrothers, soulmates, and "Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." It was push and pull and finally landed at an HEA.

Hunt and Ollie were the best examples of codependent and toxic... I'll be honest. I hated Hunter. I kept waiting for feelings of redemption to stir, but they never did in me.

I think I identified and sympathized most with Ollie. I've been in a toxic love affair strung out on pills. There was a sweetness to Ollie that kept me invested in the story, and even though Hunter drove me crazy, he was the one Ollie wanted. Hunter was Ollie's choice, even when he didn't want him to be. As the world continues to turn, Ollie will always choose Hunter.

I loved the aquarium scenes.
I loved the epilouges.
I loved the friends *Jamie and Connor*
I loved the script the mcs fell into with each other.
I loved when Ollie [redacted] for a [redacted].

If Ollie and Hunter were real, I'd tell them they'd be better off without each other. Love isn't supposed to hurt this much. But I understand the feeling of dry-drowning without your person. I understand how something can be right for two people when it looks toxic from the outside.

I stand by my hatred of Hunter.
I stand by my love of Ollie.
These two characters were trying to kill me.

I haven't felt this conflicted and full of feelings like this over characters in a LONG TIME. That's proof of a good author right there.

Also, as a gal in recovery, know addiction is a prevalent theme here and treat yourself with grace.

While I can't say I personally LOVED this book, I can absolutely say that it was great.  The angst was so real with these two... and so much of this story just made me so sad. But it was a good story, and I don't hesitate to recommend it. It may not be for me, but it will ABSOLUTELY slay you and could definitely be right up your street. Especially if you love enemies to lovers or bully romance vibes.

*swooning*

I'm telling you right now, I loved this book, and I can't recommend it enough. It was WHOLESOME. And so squishy, I think I'm going to die.

Again, I LOVED THIS BOOK.

After Way and Silas have a night to remember to forget in Vegas, they end up married. Waylon runs home to Majestic Wyoming, and Silas follows.

What starts as a way to keep their finances separate leads to a fake *but also very real marriage* for two months. Apparently, that's all the time it takes for two men to fall head over heels in love with each other.

YOUR HONOR, THEY ARE IN LOVE.

These two were adorably clueless and ridiculously sweet to each other. They both have BIG priorities, and it was a joy to watch them navigate their own feelings and boundries... all the while knowing that in two months, there would be divorce papers and an end.

But there were SO MANY MOMENTS.
So many big feelings.
Such sweet gestures of care and affection.

This wasn't a smut book. This was a romance. There were some se x scenes, but the selling point was the LOVE STORY.

Oh my god, these two were perfect and absolutely made for each other.

Perfect if you like:
Love.
Having feelings.
Cowboys.
City boys.
Found family.
Actual family.
Did I mention cowboys?
Big hearted rich dudes.
Heart of gold characters.
Big moments.
[Redacted]
Adorableness.
Possessiveness.
Protectiveness.
Sprawling natural beauty.

I could go on and on.
This book was amazing.
I can't wait for book 2.

I can't wait to get back to Majestic.

And the whole "first gentleman of Majestic" was just too cute, and I can't even.

Took a trip back to FU with Max Walker's LEVEL UP. I love this multi-author series, and this was the first book I've read by Walker. It was GREAT!

LEVEL UP is Jay and Ryan's story πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’™

Jay is an environmental activist and a new transfer to FU. I'll be honest... at times, I hated this character. But at others, I'm pretty sure I would die for him. Jay is definitely bff material. He's busy with his protests, his degree, practicing for the theatre, and trolling for the D. He meets Ryan at a frat party, and the instant attraction was πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Ryan is a rower dealing with his dad issues and wants to be a game designer even though his dad wants him to take over the family business. After his dorm gets flooded, he ends up sharing a dorm with Jay after their meet-hot fizzled out.

Jay is full of the blinded passion of youth, and Ryan is basically the build-a-perfect-boyfriend. Jay squabbles and Ryan charms, and eventually, the sexual tension and chemistry override everything.

And let me tell you, Walker can write some spicy scenes. The dirty talk, the chemistry, the πŸŒΆπŸ‘πŸ”₯ we love it. The causal use of 'daddy' was a plus, too. I read a review calling LEVEL UP *daddy lite*... and I was here for it.

If you like a little unnecessary drama, unreasonably hot college dudes, bathroom hookups, drag queens, great besties, and a sweet supportive love story with a dash of "daddy"- this book will be for you.
68 Whiskey by Erin Russell

Erin Russell delivers a gritty sequel to Stupid Dirty, with 68 WHISKEY. We finally get Ford and Tristan, and it's not at all what I expected it to be, which feels pretty on brand for Possum Hollow.

Tristan works with Cade on the ambulance. He's a medic. He also has what feels like a busload of baggage.

Ford is the nontalking, broody, but with a heart of gold mechanic who gave Silas a job.

Tristan and Ford connect on a call, and as hard as Ford pushes away... Tristan happily follows.

This book was heavy. It was entertaining as hell. The spicy scenes were stupid hot, and the stories were heartbreaking. But it really was a lot heavier than I was expecting.

What I think Erin excels at, more than anything, is writing a character/s that make you INVESTED. I want Cade and Silas to be okay. I want Ford to be safe. I want Tristan to open up and feel things like a grown-up. I want to know if the nurse at the hospital is okay. Or that Tobias and his grandma are okay. I genuinely feel like each of the mcs and EVEN the side characters are all real - and I wanna know how they're doing. That's good writing.

This story was a bit bonkers, but it's totally on brand for these characters AND this town.

I'm not going into details as far as my review because it's best going in blind I think.

But I WILL say:
The dirty talk was πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯
Ford, you kinky man.
We love to see it

This book was great.
This series is great.
This author is great.

Nothing but positive, and emotionally wrung out feelings. 68 WHISKEY comes out JUNE 26. Don't miss it!
Brave Boy by K.M. Neuhold

Brave Boy was just as good as I remembered it to be, and I have stayed up entirely too late to read it.

Emerson is the owner of Unicorn Books. He's Sterling's best friend *from book one*. He loves unicorns and purple. He's a secret writer with an AMAZING pen name. He has a stutter that he worries about. And he thinks he wants a daddy. He gets so nervous when he tries to talk to Kieran, the daddy of his dreams, and it makes his stutter worse, and it just leaves Emerson so upset.

He decides to take Sterling's advice and make a new profile on m4m so he can practice talking to daddies and maybe figure out what he wants.

Kieran is immediately captivated by Emerson, but worries his size *apparently the man is like 6 and a half feet tall* has frightened Emerson away. So he tries to give  him space, but he always shows up and flirts. But Kieran is tired of being alone. So he creates another profile on m4m looking for a partner who will see more than just his money.

THEY'RE TALKING TO EACH OTHER THE WHOLE TIME. Let's be real, it's a trope because it's swoony af.

These two mcs are exactly what the other needs. Emerson needs to be brave, and Kieran needs to be patient. They eventually get themselves sorted out, but not before the kink happens. And there's a lot of it.

This was a GREAT read, and I really enjoyed it! Perfect if you're looking for a Daddy book with no age play and exhibitionism!

*sighs* I read PRETTY BOY when it came out, and haven't reread it since. So I was more than happy to spend Daddy's Day reading a daddy book.

Sterling lives in a little town in Texas. He's an outcast there for more than just the birthmark on his face. But that's the thing he focuses on. He's shy and timid, spending all his time working at the one bar in town to support himself and his mama. And then a very handsome stranger walks into the bar one night...

Barrett is just traveling through a tiny town on his way to a meeting in Dallas. It's almost like fate made him stop in this little bar - and there he sees Sterling. Who just happens to be everything Barrett ever wanted.

Conversations happen, and Sterling takes a chance - leaving his small town behind and moves to Las Vegas with Barrett.

This is such a sweet, heartwarming story... with spice and daddy kink. Sterling learns he IS worthy of love, and Barrett finally finds the partner he's always wanted.

Sterling really is a sweetheart. He loves reading even though he's "not a good reader," so Barrett reads to him. ***swoon factor one thousand!*** Sterling refuses to be a kept man and gets a job (and friend!) at a little bookstore.

We love a strong, supportive king, and Barrett practically worships the ground Sterling walks on. He doesn't have an easy job with convincing Sterling that his birthmark doesn't bother him. I guess when you personally see what you think is a flaw, the hardest person to accept that it ISN'T a flaw is yourself.

I loved this story.
I loved the dirty talk.
I loved the storytelling.
I loved Sterling's country accent.
I loved the bookmobile.

It's such a good story with great characters. I'm looking forward to rereading Em's book next!

When it's so hot outside that I want to d i e ... of course, the answer is reading a book set around Christmas time.

After reading LET ME IN, my plan is to read all of Luna David's backlog. I decided that since I love the idea around this series, this was the one I'd start, AND I LOVED IT.

This series is a multi author shared universe series around a kink app called Cuff'd. They have a tradition of having a "write to santa" to find your perfect match thing happening. Seriously, this series is great. And this "letters to Santa" thing is what drew our two mcs together.

Sanders is living in chaos. He runs and manages his mom's coffee shop since she can't anymore. He goes to school at night. He goes to visit his mom in the center. He hasn't had sex in three years. The guy is running on empty. He has no self-worth either... I mean, his bestie had to really work to convince him to write to Santa. What Sanders wants is a kind, caring, controlling daddy. One who isn't mean to him and doesn't belittle him. Sanders doesn't see his own worth. He only focuses on his "flaws" and the negative. He wants forehead kisses and footsie under the table.

Briggs is a transplant from Chicago. He was able to retire early *really early*, build his house, and now he's looking for a partner to share his days. He goes to Cuff'd and finds the perfect profile. But now that he's talking to awkward_and_adorable, he feels weird flirting with the barista at the coffee shop.

I LOVED THEM.

It's very You've Got Mail. They were talking to each other the whole time and didn't know. I love the big reveal, too. When they figure it out. The swooning was real.

I love the way Briggs is so reassuring with Sanders. He takes such good care of him, and their dynamic was πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯. Sanders was so cute, and with Leo *the bestie* around,  there was always a laugh ready.

This was a CUTE and funny and super sweet Daddy book. No age play. I was so here for them.

This book was great. I might need to reread this series.

Oh. My. God.

If you even care. If you've ever listened to me and read a book because I encouraged you... ADD THIS TO YOUR TBR.

ANYONE BUT ME was an absolutely incredible book. I'm not usually one for "bully romance," but I am so glad I went with my gut and chose to read this book. I think I'm in love with Asher and Oakley.

Classic setup:

Oakley is the new kid. Has been for a year. On the first day of school, he gets singled out by the "IT GUY" on campus. Asher is relentless with the taunts and the attacks.

Asher is the golden boy. Rich, handsome, beloved by all, and the captain of the football team. Oakley is his "plaything" - his toy to push around and belittle.

What Asher doesn't know is that Oakley is being abused by [redacted]. When he finds out, Asher is beyond angry because "no one else is allowed to hurt you."

ANYONE BUT ME is top tier story telling. Asher and Oakley's chemistry is off the charts. The spicy scenes were HOT πŸ₯΅ and their dynamic was interesting.

I liked how the first 60ish percent of the book was Oakley's perspective, and the last 40ish was Asher's.

This book was incredible.
The mcs were amazing.
The romance was πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯
The side characters were great.
The villain was devious to a T.
The story was compelling as hell.

I LOVED this book.

I can't wait to see what @authorjdfrost has waiting for us next. It's sure to be epic, and I'm guaranteed to read it.

ANYONE BUT ME releases July 1st.
It's really a book you don't wanna miss.
I loved it so much.
