The Woods Are Always Watching by Stephanie Perkins

This BOOK had me MAD.
The two best friends: Neena and Josie, were unbearable. I did not like Neena, Josie was somewhat better. I would’ve given up this book after the s’more scene but then I kept reading because of the fight that happened immediately after and I realized i was almost done so I kept reading - out of spite.
The s’mores scene in question? The two characters are clueless about how to melt the chocolate. Josie had previous experiences as opposed to Neena, so her supposedly forgetting how to make a s’mores was so dumb I physically had to stop reading and rant about it. WHO FORGETS HOW TO MAKE A SMORES
Also, it takes 100 pages to get to the fight and the build up is so slow and unnecessary. I really only finished this book because I wanted to see what else would be terrible.
Josie falls through a hole and breaks her ankle, like bone is sticking out broken, and Neena leaves to get help. Both girls get attacked by two separate men working together. Josie’s hand gets blown off by a shotgun.
So, Josie now has a severed foot and no right hand. REMEMBER THIS
The girls end up captured together by the men and all seems hopeless until they start psyching out the weaker man and pit him against the leader man (classic Criminal Minds tactic). They start to fight but then a literal BEAR comes out of the woods and attacks the leader man. The weaker guy tries to shoot the bear with a shotgun but it’s packed with mud so it shoots from the top into his face.
Thanks to the bear mauling the other man, the girls are able to escape back to their car. Neena, who has asthma, is struggling to breathe so she can’t drive. Josie, with her INJURIES, gets behind the wheel and is going to somehow drive without her right hand and broken foot. HUH

This book was okay.
I liked the idea of it and seeing that the narrator’s version of events didn’t align with other people was intriguing. There were some parts that I wish was developed more. Some scenes seemed out of place or unnecessary.
Overall, it was just okay. I would recommend if you like books set on a campus and want an easy read, otherwise pass

i was pleasantly surprised by this book.
It took me a couple chapters to get into, but once I did - omg!! The supernatural element is what got me interested initially (MARY IS SO SCARY). The opening chapter is spooky and learning who the characters are makes it even more so.
The multiple POVs took a hot second to get used to, but each character had a unique perspective that I enjoyed. The setting was perf and definitely spooky.
The book starts with a girl who gets off a bus and is trying to return back to her boarding school. The girl becomes aware of someone following her and makes a run through the woods in an effort to get back to her school, to her friends. She never makes it back. This happens in 1950.
It then picks up with Fiona Sheridan, a journalist, in 2014. Her sister, Debbie, was murdered 20 years ago by her then-boyfriend Tim. Debbie’s body was discovered on school grounds.
Fiona learns that the school is being rebuilt by a new buyer and starts investigating. A body is found in a well and she digs into the body’s past and the school’s history.
This book talks about the police and how they interfere with investigations, not doing their job properly, especially when it comes to women. So, ACAB.
I really liked this book because it delves into the history of the school and the characters and their traumatic pasts. The way grief lingers and changes people. It makes you question crime and if justice is ever achieved. And, with all of this, there’s that supernatural element but it doesn’t feel cheesy. It enhances the story.
I would definitely recommend this!

O EM GEE
I really enjoyed reading this book. It reminded me of when I had my dinosaur phase (simpler times).
There was a lot of paragraphs devoted to scientific processes and mathematics and I didn’t really understand, but I still enjoyed it. The commentary about science and how it’s rarely used for good was interesting and relevant to today. Especially when it mentioned pharmaceutical companies and how they cared more about making a name and money for themselves as opposed to just wanting to help people.
The action scenes were so good! My favorite parts were with Alan Grant and Tim Murphy (Lex was so annoying!!) because they were so knowledgeable about dinosaurs and seeing their excitement was so fun. Also, Tim is so smart - I would’ve died within the first 100 pages of the book if I were him.
There is so much in the books that isn’t in the movie, so I’m glad I read the book. It does take almost 200 pages to get to the island/action, but the build up is worth it. I still love the movie a lot and I think it’s a good representation of the book, but the book offers extras that I enjoyed.
Alan Grant is my fave because he’s a baddie and did the most fr

Sarah Harding was the best character. The other characters would’ve died horrible deathbed without her. Like for real. She put the boss in girlboss.
The two kids, Arby and Kelly were also good characters. Their smarts saved the day. And, their povs were interesting. Ian flopped in this book
