I LOVE noir mystery detective stories set in the past. This book didn't disappoint me on any point for which I read this genre. One reason I chose this author is because I have scant experience reading African American authors and I am making a conscious effort to remedy this. I had to slow down a bit due to my inexperience in reading the vernacular dialect of the dialogue but, found it fun to look up terms and various regional aspects. Really enjoyed that! Terrific writer, looking forward to reading his next.

I'm a new cat guardian and I used every bit of information in this book to help me get on the right path to being a better guardian. I especially found the many, many real life solutions/ applications to real life problems for guardians. I'd recommend this everyone who has a cat, is thinking of adopting a cat, or as a gift for a cat guardian. I marked it down a quarter because the ebook text was sometimes mixed up, but not enough that it couldn't be figured out.

We Begin At The End by Chris Whitaker
Genre:Mystery Thriller
Excellent writing, high level of emotion, and fairly good character development. Reads like a novel. The pace was slow, like waves on a low energy beach. If that's you're thing, this book would be a match for you. I was distracted by the odd character names, the stacatto style of the text that often went on for too long, and the high level of emotion was exhausting for me.

I enjoyed this read as it made me want to follow up with a book on the origins of common phrases such as "from the get go". As a reader of non fiction European history & the #PlantagenetMonarchy this book imparted basic information regarding place names, customs, law, and a short intro to the evolution of the English language. Takeaways: Asparagus= sparrow grass
