This book was, to me, at once captivating and alienating. I suspect that a different translation might have connected the dots better for me... but as much as I understand why this is a classic it also felt very odd to be reading a fictionalized account of an Indian figure written by a German man that was translated into English. On the other hand, the illustration of a belief system through the account if a man's life was quite beautiful.
