This book wasn’t a favourite to start off with. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it enough to read it without a break - in fact, I considered giving up completely. Around halfway through, I just got a little tired of the characters, didn’t find Annie that endearing and saw the whole challenge as a little dull. However, after a few weeks away I decided to give this story another chance and I’m glad I did.
It’s not my favourite read of the year but overall the story was sweet and I’m happy I finished the book. I absolutely loved the ending, and the way the whole plot played out - it would make a wonderful film.

Can’t lie, I was quite bored in the beginning, finding myself feeling forced to read on with the slight anticipation that something might actually happen. The description of Meadowsweet Nature Reserve and it’s inhabitants kept me reading, but I wasn’t that drawn to Abby, despite loving Jack.
I thought the background of these characters could have been developed more, and when the plot finally did spike my interest (around chapter 14), it all moved a bit too quick, in contrast to the beginning of the book which was slow.
I would have given this book 4 stars if the ending was more satisfying, although all loose ends were tied up, I just wanted a bit more.

A generous two stars. Honestly the whole book was just kind of dull. It’s absolutely full of profanity, Lizzy’s sister is awful and she doesn’t actually start doing anything decent until chapter 25. I had to force myself to finish this and even the ending was “meh”. I liked Lizzy’s motives but the book wasn’t that funny, definitely light-hearted but I found myself skipping chunks of text looking for a real plot.
My first Giovanna Fletcher novel and possibly my last sadly!

Maybe 4.5 stars. The plot was great, I didn’t laugh all the way through but there were certainly parts that were funny. Emma was a relatable and fun character, and Jack was very sweet too.
The only reason this book didn’t get 5 stars was because the ending was lacking a little for me. It was a little rushed and almost anti-climactic. I found myself frustrated and was hoping for something a little more romantic.

Light, warm, and hilarious. Bianca is one of my favourite book protagonists!
The one thing that saved this book was the author’s fantastic writing style and the character, Violet. I wasn’t that keen on Theodore Finch and because of this didn’t enjoy the book too much. I liked that the story was told from different sides, and I definitely got the message buts its not one that is going to stick with me forever. Heartbreaking sweet story, just not for me.
