This book had me hooked immediately.
Mila’s ability to read the energies of living things was so intriguing to me.
I also really enjoyed how each of the characters were flawed and you could see both light and dark within them.
This book is so captivating, the dynamics between characters, the religious and mythological tone, the power dynamics, and the storytelling.
I absolutely devoured this book and loved it.
I absolutely love chapter titles!

Once an assassin, always an assassin.
We have a pronunciation guide, a glossary, the most stunning map in existence & content warnings that sound like the shopping list to make a great book.
The prelude. What a way to open!
I don’t know what words I can use to explain how phenomenal this book truly is.
I will be honest with you, I felt a whole lot of emotions. I giggled, I was teary eyes, I was angry, I was laughing, I was sobbing, I was kicking my feet.
R. Moody has created such a gorgeous book, I fell in love with the characters, the different settings, the friendships and obviously the food (sorry I cannot get over how good all the food sounded). There are definitely parts that emotionally wrecked me.
The nightmares. These were emotional. These were the moments I needed to put the book down, close my eyes and take a breath. These were heavy, but written in a sensitive and delicate manner where you could understand their purpose in the story without it being severely jarring.
The nickname. Did I highlight every time it was said. Yes. Yes I did.
I loved feeling like I was travelling alongside Mika and discover different parts of Sunyanile. I also really enjoyed learning about the rules, laws, and history of the nation as the story unfolded.
That ending !!!!!!!! Sorry. Can I have book 2, like now? Please 🙏
Also would not be opposed to some recipes. This had me craving stew and pies!!

I received this as an arc and this is my honest review
From the first line, Braidee Otto had me hooked. I loved every word I read and every second I spent reading this.
From the first line, Braidee Otto had me hooked. I loved every word I read and every second I spent reading this.
Her writing is honestly poetry and reels you into the world she has spun with such delicacy and power. Pure and utter poetry. I have not read anything like this before, the way Braidee Otto weaves words together with such precision and delicacy keeping the reader entranced for the entire book.
The dedication gripped me by the heart and had me teary eyed 🥹
The range of emotions that I felt while reading was on par with every 5🌟 review. Braidee Otto had me giggling and kicking my feet, sitting upright with my eyes glued to the page in apprehension, tearing up to complete sobs, anger and wanting to physically smack some characters, fanning myself because things get a bit steamy to smiling and swooning.
The way Braidee describes The Sorrows and surrounding areas is just beautiful ✨
The character descriptions are phenomenal and you can instantly tell how Aella feels about whoever she is encountering by the descriptions.
The tiny details make this book … it is the little references to birds and the Aviary in statements and thoughts that add to this book and really draw you right in.
The way Greek myth and culture is interwoven into this story is glorious and creates such depth to the story and the world Braidee Otto has created in Songbird of the Sorrows
Aella 🕊️ rules are there to be bent and broken.
Nyssa the best friend we all need in our lives.
Raven is 🥵 🐦⬛ when you listen to how Aella describes him you just know.
The slow burn. The drama. The storyline. The world building. The Greek mythology elements. Assassins. Spies. Plotting. Trials. Someone just hand you a trophy because goddamn.
There is an obvious affinity here with riddles and I really enjoyed it !
That ending. I am not okay. I need more immediately!

Romance, Murder, Chaos … ?
This book is not for the squeamish.
Please read the triggers for your own wellbeing (that will always come first)
In all honesty this was not what I hoped it would be. It was slow and did not really capture my attention the way I expected.
I am normally the girl jumping to watch the new show or listen to the latest podcast about murder and serial killers or gory horror movies and medical shows and this book was honestly disappointing.
The relationship between Rowan and Sloane (aka Butcher and Blackbird) did contain some tropes that I enjoy but it still felt off (it also moved slow - not what you expect from serial killers)
However it is kinda cute (only in a book way) that they both stalk each other
