I will need a good month to recover from this book. The writing was gruesomely beautiful and the plottwist carved out my heart and buried it in the woods (iykyk). Horror is not usually a genre I read but I'm glad I chose this books as the first of its genre. I will not get the images out if my head for a long time, maybe never.

This book wasn't really for me. The characters felt very flat at time and like they had little personality, except for Briar maybe. The way they kept her prophecy from coming true was very uneventful and I could tell whatthe plot is going to be from a mile away which ig makes sense since it's a fairytale retelling. Also the jumps in time between chapters sometimes just felt way too big.
Briar and Walter are a very cute couple though and I really liked the friendship building.

Being able to look into what then will be president Snow's head was so interesting and really gave me the ick sometimes.
The way he viewed Lucy Gray more as his property than anything else made the quick switch at the end of him trying to hunt her down made more sense than it had to me when watching the movie. And 'Coriolanus' turning into 'Snow' in the epilogue made me want to scream into a pillow.

I needed a bit to get used to the writing but it just makes so much sense for the characters. Absolutely lived the book and the way it dealt with topics like gender and depression as well. The ending was not what I wished for throughout but definitely the best decision for both of them.
