Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
i am a self-proclaimed ana huang stan and yet… i’m a little disappointed again. this couple was cute, yes, but this book didn’t consume me or feel like a real-life escape in a way most of the twisted books did.
i will continue to read her books and this series, i think, but i was kind of hoping king of wrath was a fluke and the rest would be amazing. this one was ok. :)
emily henry writes characters so real so well that it’s hard to step away because you need a minute to say goodbye to your real-life human friends on pages. the biggest complaint i have heard about her books are that they’re boring, but so far i disagree. i think feeling like i really know these real-life people and can step into their lives for a little bit is exciting.
my biggest qualm is that i wish her books were, or could be, dual pov. i think poppy and january (the two emily henry fmcs i’ve met so far) are whole people i’ve known for years, and alex and gus are their boyfriends they’ve told me about in detail.
this was a really good book and i’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys slices of life.
so far, my emily henry ranking: people we meet on vacation beach read
i think i’ve outgrown this series since i started it last year, the plot is really convoluted and i feel like if they want so many characters it would be better if it was broken up into books for them
loooove this book series overall and was super excited to see this came out AND the whole series so far is on KU now!
this book was a bit different than the others in the series so far, more similar to ramanu and lenora than the other two couples. and i think it paid off! i like that it wasn’t a carbon copy of what we’ve gotten before but still held up.
i will pretty much read anything katee robert writes and this reminded me why 🤞
sometimes you pick up a book on a whim and it consumes you— you want to read it between bites at mealtime, you stay up late to finish chapters. this is one of those books for me!
i was so shocked to be so into this. it’s very dramatic, very intense, and very good. i never finished sierra simone’s “priest” because it was too intense for me at the time but this makes me want to get back into it.
immediately bought the next two in the trilogy. i love when a book makes me feel so excited to be a reader again.
this was a fun and digestible why choose / polyamorous contemporary romance with 4 men and 1 woman. i loved the added element of drake and liam’s dynamic, i think it added a lot of fun and realism.
i found some of the influencer scenes a bit cringy and hope to never see a man play closer by the chainsmokers on guitar in real life for my sanity, but it was forgivable.
i would recommend this to someone who’s a fan of lily gold why choose romances and is looking for more stories that are why choose but NOT dark romance.
this was such an anticipated read for me and it met my expectations and then some. i love this series and am happy they continue to impress me! i would recommend it to anyone who’s read katee robert’s neon gods and is looking for more in the realm of sex clubs and taboo relationships while still being more light than dark.
pros: - it has elements of a “romancing my stepdad” trope without being gross. despite the age gap, ronan and daisy did NOT know eachother until daisy was an adult - ronan kade has the potential to be… an annoying cliche “grumpy” character to daisy’s sunshine but this book veered away from those stereotypes and i was sooo thankful. - a short read! good if you read romance fast like i do and want to get thru a story quick
cons: - pretty predictable conflict, and daisy’s inner monologue while thinking about it got tired fast. WE KNOW, you have to tell him about your mom! we know it’s coming! - not a fan of the ending trope but i blacked it out already. i pretended it do not exist
