at first, this novella was super cute and was looking to be a cute story, but with the whole kidnapping situation that kind of just ruined the magic for me?? the fact that tella wasn’t certain it was actually legend that had kidnapped her and was kissing her and she played along anyways really rubbed me the wrong way. especially with all the descriptions that stated that the magic didn’t feel like legend’s?? when i was reading i thought tella must be experiencing stockholm syndrome because i wouldn’t think legend would create a world that sick for tella who he ‘loves’. the part where the girls were auditioning and had to turn around and show their ‘backsides’ too???? <\spoiler> like i’m sorry but it just felt weird and kind of soured tella and legend’s whole relationship for me.<\spoiler>

okay this might just be my readers high speaking but i loved this book to death. it’s so fun and cutesy and it’s making me want love like wes and liz. i was actually on the verge of tears for a lot of the book for some reason, o was just so invested. this is the first romance book i’ve read and liz’s communication skills -or lack thereof- were STRESSING me out but i guess that would be the case with most romance (again, first romance book i had no idea what to expect). i think im just going to be gushing about this book for a bit but i definitely think it going to be reading more romance.

the plot of this book is really interesting, there are so many twists and turns. as a retelling of romeo and juliet, it satisfyingly did everything for me that the original play did not. i really enjoyed all the references to shakespeare’s writing too. though it can be gruesome at times, i think that it does an amazing job at setting the scene and found myself completely engrossed in the ongoing of shanghai as i read. excited to read these violent ends now!!

I rated this book 4 stars because I really likes the plot, characters, the way it was written etc. The only reason that I didn’t rate it a 4.75-5 stars is because it was a bit hard to start reading. Other than that, though it was amazing! DAGGER TO THROAT KISS OML DAGGER TO THROAT KISS AAAAA also I’m kinda upset that Jude betrayed Cardan, like I understand it was for oak but still it makes me sad
