Compelling and unsettling. Bostrom's writing style definitely takes some getting used to, but Superintelligence covers so much history, politics, technology, and philosophy in such a limited space, it makes up for the esoteric writing. Would recommend to anyone interested in the potential risks associated with AI.

A simple, grounded yet incredibly engaging mystery thriller set in space. I probably haven’t enjoyed a sci-fi novel this much since reading Ender’s Game for the first time as a kid.

This book can feel like a wild ride. Nozick provides an entertaining array of arguments and thought experiments in critique of anarchism, distributive justice, and other political proposals. However, although I myself have a lot of sympathy towards Nozick’s political philosophy, I have doubts the arguments and structure of this book will likely convince many others. Nevertheless, there are undeniably important insights in ASU that I think remain under-appreciated by both leftists and libertarians.

Read this for a book club. I wasn’t expecting to like it, & I didn’t leave convinced of the thesis, but I learned a bit & feel glad to at least be familiar with the strongest case for U.S. hawkishness towards China.

This was the first graphic novel I instantly loved. The art, the writing, the social commentary; all amazing.

An excellent overview of the perverse incentives that plague the U.S. criminal justice system. Barkow doesn’t pull any punches or focus on “low hanging fruit” issues, but expertly writes in a way accessible to audiences looking to become more familiar with mass incarceration. Barkow’s remedy of separating criminal justice from populism and placing more trust in experts should be challenging to both anti-elite conservatives and pro-democracy progressives.

Incredibly detailed tour of the far right from neonazis to LaRouchites. Lyons’ working definition of “far right” as an autonomous political force for inequality & against the established political order, is helpful by cutting through complex ideological divisions, distinguishing between right-wing oppositional & system-loyalists, & avoiding issues surrounding more controversial labels like “fascism.” Because the book covers so many groups, readers will likely leave wanting more info, to which I would recommend the Three Way Fight blog where you can find more of Lyons’ writing.

Good lighthearted overview of the case for housing deregulation.
