This was a fucked up friendship from the jump. The hopping around timeline was just okay.
Maybe it’s because I physically was in the locations that were described in the book or maybe it’s how well the author described the time period but I felt like I could see and feel as I read this story. This is set in the 1800’s after a very real & true war, the author is a historian and was able to weave some factual info into this horror story. I loved every minute of this world that was built around a historical time period I love to learn about. It was creepy, spooky, and I really loved the ending.
So happy I got to read this while staying in Mexico City it made me appreciate this book even more

Good quick read, quippy fun writing, short & sweet. Hit me a little more emotionally than I had expected. Love, love lost, love found again type of book.
I learned so much. This book was thoughtful, endearing, interesting, so many great life stories from both of these besties. I’m so sad they’ve both passed because I don’t even really like basketball and I am now such a fan of both these men. The most unlikely friendship, so happy I randomly picked this up at the library. I would recommend this to everyone.
So. Many. Twistys! Read it in one day couldn’t put it down.
Suspenseful! The writing was creative & so was the concept. Think of the movie escape room but with a supernatural demon type of twist. They all think they’re signing up for a game with a prize, but they really have no clue what’s in store for them. V wild ride but the three stars is because I couldn’t keep up with the characters and when it’d switch to the family running the game the writing was difficult for me to understand.
