the pacing is terrible and this was honestly such a slog to get through but it was worth it for the last 20 percent of the novel i think. i think gothic lit might not be for me tho cause pacing was a problem for me when i read gothic lit for school and it happened here too so take it with a grain of salt.

BORING AS HELL did not feel the need to root for these guys one bit. i like alex and irene becoming a couple tho but thats the only redeeming quality/what kept this book at a 2 everything else sucks
june is so terrible i read this to see her ultimate downfall and that was a journey worth reading i love u rf kuang

theres just too much going on; too many characters and povs and its just poorly organized to a point where i stopped caring....i will say tho i love the worldbuilding and the main couple is sapphic! so thats fun i just wish it wasn't so overwhelming of a read...
this book is too long and not much happens in the beginning and rather than getting invested and stuck in a 700 pg book i didnt like i just dropped it

this was more like a textbook and the fiction was just a long hypo instead of an actual dark academia novel. LOVED the social commentary like always ms kuang never fails at telling the truth (and making yt people mad about teehee) but i wish this was more like tpw where the themes were interwined amongst an epic story.
