A 3 star read simply because the plot doesn’t really kick in until like the last 100 pages….

There were times where scenes kind of blended together and there were times where the author would try to explain the setting of the scene and it just didn’t quite make sense to me at least.

Wish we could’ve seen more of Jonah. I wish Sam and Inga’s story was explored more. I wish the ending wasn’t so rushed either.

I didn’t get it. None of it. 2 stars only because Stella made the read worth it

Why was the word “black” capitalized every single time?

This was excellent literature. Tens tens across the board.

The plot was great. The magic system was even better though at times, it was a little hard to understand because sometimes things were introduced to us so… abruptly (?) and never explained that well so there were times I kind of had to be okay with the fact that I do not comprehend what I’m reading.

The world building was also really really great but like above, some things were hard to wrap my head around. Like the dome and the Bloodlurst prison bit was kind of confusing.

Other than that, the world building was great. Also loved the Indian rep! The food, the clothes, the palaces, the different skin tones, the words. All of it was so cool to learn about.

I think the pacing was one of my favorite thing about this book. They were constantly in life or death situations and they had to act fast so I like how I could feel their urgency through the pacing of the story.

This wasn’t just Jatin and Adraa’s story. Each character has a backstory and each one is explored. I feel like I knew every character and their motivations and I loved that. Sometimes authors will introduce a character we’re meant to care about but they never give us enough backstory to make us care about them. This book wasn’t like that! Also appreciated how the characters weren’t all so one dimensional (Fiza).

….. AND FUCK MOOLEK! ME AND ALL MY HOMIES HATE MOOLEK!!!!….

Absolutely loved it!!! It was a little slow for me to get into but there was a point where I got hooked and finished the entire book in a couple of hours.

The premise is good. The villain is good. The plot is good.

Jatin and Aadra, mi familia y'all are soooo loved 🫶🏾🫶🏾. I actually really enjoyed their love story and the whole secret identity thing was cute and fun! I wasn’t into it at first because duh! It’s gonna cause a rift for a little bit between the two but I’m glad that their little rift wasn’t dragged out because they were BOTH lying to each other and they each had a reason so oh well.

Towards the beginning, it’s hinted that Aadra’s firelight could be used for bad and I like how that followed through with the volcano arch. I love it when authors sneak in stuff and actually follow it through…

The ending was a little rushed than usual which I didn’t really appreciate but it wasn’t that serious that it would change my rating. I just hope the second book fleshes it out more

IT WAS GOOD. Just exactly what I needed to get out of this reading funk. It was fun and lighthearted and Ryan is such a cool guy. Like that sounds weird but he’s just so cool and I’m pretty sure he was based off Ryan Reynolds… No complaints though!

Melvin was a jerk.
Vivian my sister!
Lindsay… dare I say mother?
Ryan,,, my beloved.
Wished we got to see more of Noreen.

The twitter interactions were hilarious mainly because that’s exactly how stan twitter speaks. Like it’s all so ridiculous but I was laughing!

I mean it was just alright. 400+ pages and yet somehow, nothing and everything happened you know? Like so much was going on but at the same time, nothing happened. 400+ pages and yet I would say that 280+ of those pages were filler. Just yapping

I won’t even lie to you. If the book had continued the way it started, it would’ve been much better. I don’t know though. This book took itself too seriously and whenever a serious topic came up, the conversation being had around it didn’t come off as genuine, you know? The book tried to tackle multiple serious topics but for some reason, I didn’t feel connected to them.

I don’t know. The writing kind of got sloppy towards the middle and it was downhill from there.

Khalil’s depression would’ve been a group character arc if it wasn’t so choppy and messy and in a way, disingenuous…?

I liked it.

The saddest part about all of it was how Freya tried so hard to convince herself that her and Matthew had this great love when in reality, they were both settling. Like Freya may not have realized it but she was definitely settling as well. Throughout the little snippets we got into their past, you could see they just weren’t a great fit. It was just two people who were comfortable.

Glad she found Jamie though and the fact that she fell in love with him kinda quickly is because he was the right person for her like he just was. She thought she was gonna be stuck on Matthew on forever then here comes this guy who’s the total opposite and he’s her perfect match.
