A Game of Fate by Scarlett St. Clair

Did not finish book. Stopped at 67%.
I want to like this series and at some points I do. I find the a modern day world in with Greek Mythology exists and it's existance is in jeporday interesting. However, the book is too busy forcing very unemotional and uninteresting sex secense that don't feel earned. The characters are destined to be in love due to the fates but the attraction and desire doesn't feel natural or earned. These characters having sex is the majority of the story and I have become bored by it.

I am really enjoying this story as a whole. The evil journey of our character as he recruits new allies while our "heroes" conitnue to loose themselves as they wrestle with how to defeat this one time hero is also super compelling. Most of all I can tell that this is a tight well thought out and planned finite story. This is something I have found in the past has been difficult for many indie creators. Art is fantastic being both simple and yet complex. The artist captures the smallest hints of emotions.

At this point the main character/villian is developing into someone you both pity and hate. I like the remaining heroes all have different thresholds of what they are willing to compromise to save the world and stop him. Reading the trade paperbacks this series is very fast pace with little to no down time. No filler issues, just back to back action. It's almost frantic in the same way our heroes are frantictly trying to figure out a solution to a major and deadly problem.

I think this book is best when you go into it with no expectations or understanding of what this book is truley about. Evelyn is such a complex character that you can't help but love and root for.

Comic book issues #9-12. Lots of big reveals in this trade and more insight into the characters. I enjoy how Waid is slowly laying out how these heroes are all imperfect but are trying to keep up these facades. The art done by Krause and Barreto is simple yet expressive. They capture everyone's emotions in their faces. The fear and anger, the deep hurt. In a lot of ways, this story is about people feeling unappreciated and lonely. It's about everyone pretending to be something they aren't.

Issues 5-8; Hard to review or rate a tradepaper back with only four issues in it. Story progression and character development was good. I like how it's playing with various superhero tropes and showing heroes with flaws. Sometimes I think the Ploutonian is too sensitive in that he is the polar opposite of superman who is very stoic and ernest. Here is a hero/villian who is sensitive and sad; so he takes betrayal and heartbreak too personally.

This first volume contains issues 1-4. The first few issues grab you in the mystery of why this superman type hero turned from good to bad. The ways in which he uses his powers to destruct and the utter helplessness these heroes and people of the earth must feel is felt in each panel. I'm curios where the story will go next.

The Marcos Martin art in this book is fantastic with amazing vibrant coloring from Muntsa Vicente. The world feels alive and lived in from the first page. The story is quick and straight to the point. Not a lot of background is provided leaving it up to the reader to interrept what occured in the past and who are main characters are. I really enjoyed the story.
