I was soooo expecting a lot more thriller than this book gave. Thought I've come to the realisation that it's wayy more an emotional and psychological thriller mystery than anything else. If you like a bunch of morally grey characters in hiding, living together and then hiding each other's secrets then this one's for you. Relatively messed up characters, though I didn't feel any attachment to any of them and kind of just followed the plot as it went, trying to decipher where the author's taking this. I couldn't guess it and was left kind of baffled by that ending, very clever and very unexpected. A good and solid mystery, psychological thriller read. The gore levels are mid but my gosh are there moments where I was close to throwing up. The descriptions are so vivid and easy to imagine. Overall, I had an interesting and good time.

At first I was gonna DNF this one when I was reading the ebook off Netgalley but then found the audiobook and I highly recommend listening to the audiobook as the narrators and the way they read the book makes the book a better experience.
It was an interesting read for me as I don't really read "magical" romance much and the concept of the whole book was a bit unrealistic and absurd to me but that's just my personal opinion. I have to say, the way the author kept adding plot points made the ending a bit less unpredictable and it had me slightly curious. The pace at which they fell in love and the fact that they even loved each other at all was also a bit out there for me and didn't make much sense. In my opinion, it was all a bit too unrealistic and I didn't see any chemistry besides physical and those made up years they uad together. Some more depth would have been nice, a good fleshed out emotional connection and understanding. Not the worst of the worst but also not the best

Think Iron Flame in terms of banter and relationship dynamic. In terms of plot and everything else I have nothing to compare it with. It was such a unique experience. The concept of a cold war between Heaven and Hell, children of Archangels and Demons alike coming together to study and enhance their powers it was gripping. Although I must say the whole "lusting" and pining was cringe worthy at best from start to finish. I'm here for the friendship the girls formed and I'm sooo curious to know where the author will take the plot after THAT ending. You bet I'll be reading the next 2 books aswell. Hoping some characters get some more depth
A must read if you enjoy constant banter, love-hate relationships, strong friendship dynamics, a good ol biblical setting with a twist of fantasy, darkness and magic. And of course a good enemies to "you're bearable" trope. Happy reading😉

Everytime I read an Emily henry book I feel like I take small pieces of the characters I relate to and hold on to that. I take their happiness and make it my own. Reading this book felt like diving into a lake, only to then realise that it's pitch black and you can't break to the surface. I swam with these characters and their struggles. That's how immersed I was. I started to simply float through all the perspectives and lives of the characters. I was able to place myself into all 6 of their shoes. I would've loved a bit more depth from some of the side characters but the story of Harriet and Wyn will stick. I related to too much of whjat Harriet went through and the things she's said and I couldn't have been happier when she finally found what makes her happy.
