i don’t think i’ve ever been so immersed in a world whilst reading a book — the beautifully descriptive prose & brilliantly complex structure make you feel like you are at the centre of the circus the entire way through this enchanting story.

The whole thing felt like the exact same plot lines repeated over and over again with completely unlikable characters BUT some absolutely stunning prose. can’t say I enjoyed the story but the writing is phenomenal.

plath's writing is truly one of a kind -- her description of everyday normalities, coupled with her depiction of the most phantom inner thoughts, give the bell jar a unique tone, that is pleasantly mellow, gut-wrenchingly sad, and utterly bizarre all at the same time.
