This series has solidified itself as one of my top reads of all time. I cried while reading this. I was jealous, and I was incredibly upset. I felt all the things while reading this. From the character development, to the political intrigue, to the fighting between rebels v. royals and royals v. royals. I cannot get enough of this series! Why does the next book have to be over a year away??!!
Diem was trying to be formally crowned beside all the other crowned royals of the realms, when the rebels made a viscous attack and everything fell into chaos. Diem woke to being a prisoner in a camp of Guardians that she was previously a member of. But now that she's technically a royal with a crown they no longer see her as such?
The road to breaking down prejudices and healing past hurts on both the rebel side and the Descended side is a long one, but Diem hasn't given up on any of her people. She will fight until her last breath to safe everyone regardless of their genetics.
After breaking out of the rebel camp, Diem and Luther and cadre are forced to flee from one kingdom to the next until they are forced to make their trip home when one of their own becomes gravely ill.
If you couldn't tell, I'm completely in love with this series, and I will be eagerly awaiting any news of the next book in this series.

I'm absolutely in LOVE with this series. I bow down to Penn Cole's ability to write a slow burn. This whole series has me in a choke hold! I was supposed to be doing other things this past week, but all I did was sneak in reading time.
Diem is struggling to find her power and herself in this new life she's found herself in. She is floundering between her new life with the Descended and her old life with the Mortals, and they're pulling her in different directions.
Luther is showing himself more and more, but he continues to keep secrets from her, and she can't fulling trust him until he reveals everything he's kept from her.
Henri is no longer the boy she grew up with, but she desperately wants to keep her promises to him. She doesn't feel the same way about him that she does Luther, however.

This book is all about the world building, and I'm so here for it! Diem is a young healer who lives in the mortal's district/slum. She has been raised her whole life to become a healer like her mother, and she's been trained by her retired general of a father to fight.
One day, her mother meets with a Decended, who are recognizable by their light-colored eyes and striking beauty, and after that night she never see her mother again. She comes to find out that her mother hid a lot more about her heritage, abilities, and her past that she ever could have expected.
The Kindred were a race from another planet who came to Diem's world many generations ago due to a curse. The Kindred subjugated the "mortals" and then decided to mate with them a create a race called the Decended. The Kindred decided to bind their immortal life to that of their mortal mates and leave this world to by run by their offspring, the Decended.
Diem was forbidden by her mother to ever interact with or go to the Kindred's side of town. So, she only ever saw a Kindred in passing if they happened to come to the Mortal slum, but she starts to realize after her mother's disappearance that she may have more in common with them than she ever thought.
Also, there's a brooding dark prince who keeps popping up in Diem's path! I'm so excited to read more of this series! The worldbuilding is A plus!

This book picks up right where Bride of Ashes left off, and I'm here for it! I could not put this book down to save my life! The Arranged Marriage/Why Choose with the body guard?! Can you get any better than that.
Reyla was sent to this Kingdom of High Fae to be the willing bride for their King. She soon comes to realize that a curse plagues this court, and if she doesn't find a way to unravel all the layers of this curse. Her beloved King will be doomed.
Reyla, Merrick, and Lorant work together to train her in her newly realized powers while at the same time trying to uncover as many secrets and layers to the curse as they can before time runs out.
Plus, there is a raging group of Borgons that continue to attack the surrounding farms. Is it related to the curse? Or something else?
The sexual tension between these three and the complexity of the curse and magic keep me coming back for more and more. I can't wait to read what Ms. Alaya Wells writes next!

Trishara has had just about enough of WMC when she's offered a three week Corporate retreat in Hawaii. The only catch is that she has to spend those three weeks with her least favorite coworker Rafe, who just so happens to look like a younger Henry Cavill. She had planned to spend as much time on her own as possible while at the retreat, but things to NOT go as planned where Rafe is concerned.
I love the banter between these too. Plus, I'm also a woman in engineering, so a lot of these scenes make complete sense to me. The descriptions of Hawaii are also a fun and blissful read.

This book has all the world building. While the first is about estabilishing Asteria and Calix as characters and the classism in this world, this book is all about Asteria exploring her abilities, and there are MANY!
Of course after the events that ended the first book, she is hesitant to jump into what she has with Calix. Why?! I don't know other than to torture me, the reader. However, I can understand her fear of losing Calix, so not want to start such a big relationship.
Most if this book is politicking. Where Asteria and Calix are trying to form as many allies as possible for the war to come with Dusk.
I CANNOT wait to read more from Ms. Rachel Fallon. She is one of my newest must-read authors.

This book has SO MUCH packed into it! I absolutely loved this conclusion to the series. I'm an HEA girly and this book did NOT disappoint. There are so many side characters and story lines that needed to be wrapped up, and I would say most of them were wrapped up in a beautiful little bow. If not, they were at least mentioned for some sort of conclusion. I also read all of the side novellas for the additional conclusions. Ms. Roehrich DELIVERS when it comes to a satisfying ending.
Scarlett, Sorin, Eliza, Callan, Cassius, and Cyrus are still recovering from past traumas while at the same time fighting against Alaric, Mikale, and fate. This book is filled with battles, training sequences, and heart-felt scenes.
I cannot wait to read more from Melisa Roehrich!

This is a little novella about Rayner's deep dark past, and it is DEEP and DARK. Rayner aka Ash Rider was born essentially in a convent. Where the Baroness is the leader of a colony hidden away on the Southern Islands. She makes all the "mating pairs" and allocates them into reproduction rooms until a result is made.
Rayner is her Second from the age of 13 when he fully comes into his powers, but he over time learns that the life he grew up in is not normal and not okay. There are parts of the life in the Southern Islands that have been kept a secret from him, and as he discovers them he becomes less and less comfortable with his role in helping the Baroness.
This is a good little side story that really fleshes out not only Rayner's past, but also Cyrus and Eliza's pasts too.

This book is really building the series. We are seeing more locations and more cultures, and are finding out more and more about the origins of the main characters.
While I very much enjoy reading about Scarlett and Sorin, the side characters really hold this story together. I love reading about the struggling mortal Prince Callan, and about the wounded and struggling Fae Warrior Cyrus. Plus, Cassius is always so solid, but he's learning a lot about himself in this book.
Scarlett and Sorin continue to try and evade Alaric and his assassins while at the same time trying to build alliances and find a way to stop Alaric from decimating a whole group of people simply for power.
The Fae Queen Talwynn continues to be whiney and self-possessed, but I think she's starting to open her eyes to the bigger picture going on around her. She's still my least favorite character.
I'm interested to see how all of this wraps up in the next book.
