The Daylight War by Peter V. Brett

Did not finish book.
Honestly didn’t finish it. It’s a load of shite. How many chapters of women are second class citizens and everything being about sex consensually or not is to many. Look he’s clearly a good author but this series is just a dive into depravity each getting more crude and unpleasant. First book was amazing but the sequels tried to balance multiple povs and spent more time of woman’s lack of a voice or choice in life then the plot. It’s a fantasy dude didn’t have to be that way unless you wanted to write that. Also the racist depiction of the ‘desert folks’ and how they match with right wing media views of Africans isn’t lost either.

Look the plot of the main story is good very good actually, but it’s vastly sexualised and not it a good way. I get what the author is trying to do with the powerful women but making nearly every other woman/girl in the story be meak or just some toy to be “used” is getting sick at this point. Like there are whole pages where we basically just read about how useless women are but like it’s a fantasy novel it don’t have to be that way. Will read the next one but starting to lose hope for series
