Stolen by the Shadows by Sarah Spade

This book had me all in my feelings. I loved that at the beginning when the FMC called the demon by accident when she was 9 years old. He knew that she was his mate the minute that he saw her, but he knew that she was a child and would not act on anything while she was young. He became her friend, the monster that she told all her secrets to. Nox, the monster who waited 1200 years to find his soul mate and the only way he could was to be pulled into the human world by a spell. When he finally felt the call he found a child as his mate. There was nothing inappropriate in this book, due to the age difference. The FMC did end up touching his shadows because she was wondering what they felt like and he was locked up for 14 years. and he took his punishment to make sure that his mate was safe. He did escape when during Halloween the veil between the two worlds are at its weakest, and he felt his mates fear when she saw her stalker crazy ex-boyfriend. The biggest thing I loved about this book is that she did not fight the mating bond, and did not make him earn back all the time they spent apart. She walked into the bind with the knowledge of what it will entail. She is smart and stubborn, but she knew from the beginning that there was something special about her shadow monster.

This book was so cute but also irritating in both good and bad ways The MMC cared more about what other people thought then the young FMC ever did. The age gap in my opinion was not a huge on as the FMC was 19 and the MMC was 38, the fact that the FMC was dating the MMC’s son was a huge sticking point for most of the book and I get the reasons why behind it. With the FMC I feel like she had an old soul and really wanted the life the MMC could give her, but he was scared as he did not want to mess up the relationship he had with his son, as he had him very young but the mother turn him against his father. So his fears for most of the book was justified.
The sister of the FMC really bugged me, as she would tease her sister but not in a kind way. I am not sure if she wanted her to come out of her shell or that she wanted her sister to be like her. I know that she made good money as a stripper and she was worried that her sister was not making enough money for herself but she could have been a supporting sister instead of a bitch.
There are times when I was reading this book that I had to put myself back in my 19 year old self, and remember I was stupid at that time when it comes to love as well. I know now that how the FMC treated Cole the son of the MMC, was more like a mother and not like a girlfriend. They should have ended their relationship long before the book even started but they stayed together due to them being scared to be alone and that they were familiar with each other. Cole did redeem himself in my eyes when he decided he was going to make a change in his life for the better and he took the steps to do it on his own without anyone pushing him.
I loved this book and I love the writing style of Penelope Douglas and I have already recommended this book to others and also will be recommending this to my book club.

This book was amazing, it kept my emotions all over the place. I will say that the MMC was a-bit extreme with his feelings and how he handled them. The FMC was a bit overwhelmed with all her feelings and losing her independence within the relationship and when she states that she needs space to figure out her feelings and what she wants he refused to give her the space that she needed. It came to the point where she felt that she had to run away to finally get the space she needed to figure out her feelings.
Also, the fact that he bribed the doctor to not give her the birth control so that he can make her pregnant so that it will force her to stay with him. I am not a huge fan of the pregnant trope, and he needs to understand all the FMC wanted was her independence. This was important to her, and he refused to let her go and he wanted to control every aspect of her life.
This is an amazing read and I loved and I really enjoyed the writing style as this was so fast past and I love that it was not a slow burn. I can’t wait to see what else this author has in store.

This book was good, I started it and I could not stop reading it till I had it completed. It was a really rough work day for me the next day.
The FMC was a bit on the submissive side for me as she hated the MMC for no other reason besides that he was a lawyer that went after her father. I know that it is a tough time but she is portrayed as a very smart women and I did not understand why she held such anger toward the MMC at the beginning.
The MMC tried to portray himself as an unfeeling lawyer, but the min that he saw the FMC it all changed. I loved how he fell first and came to her rescue both at the coffee shop and the bar. It made me feel things that I did not know I was into. His protectiveness was such a turn on, and he fell hard and fast for the FMC.
I can not wait to see what the second book has in store because the cliff hanger at the end of book one had me on the edge of my seat
