Characters: getting juiced and eviscerated by space horrors
Me: nice, nice πββοΈ
The Scourge Between Stars drops you into a setting where the situation is already dire: the crew is overworked and overwhelmed, the ship is falling apart, the citizens are hungry and angry, home is lightyears awayβ¦.and thatβs BEFORE people suddenly start getting torn limb from limb. This was a quick and brutal scifi horror novella. It had plenty of violence with a good amount of heart, and was just what I needed.
I really hope Ness Brown has more books on the way!
the descriptions of Laure losing herself to both ballet and the darkness she sacrificed herself to
Laureβs ruthlessness, unquenchable thirst, and rage
The monstrousness of it all
Things I disliked:
Laureβs inability/hesitation to call some things and characters what they truly are
some of the pacing
Laureβs brash decision making like girl letβs think something through for once
the romance? Didnβt see the point
the ending
That list was a little long but overall, I found this solid! Jamison Shea promised us darkness and delivered. Now I do wish there were some things that were more explained and prioritized in place of some others, as I genuinely feel this would have been fine as a standalone with a few tweaks here or there. Regardless, Laureβs journey was a wild one, and her commitment to tearing at more and of herself for power was something serious. Desperation makes monsters of us all, as they say.
obsessed with the way the author is trying to disguise their bondage kink within the plot but instead of it being a whisper theyβre actually screamingβ¦itβs not a secret babe, itβs a billboard in times square. you are NAWT slick!! π€π€
