We love a good, classic story reimagined don't we? Of course we do. But you know what we don't want? A thousand versions of Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, Hades & Persephone… You get where I'm headed so I'll stop here. So I'm just really excited my Queen, Rebecca, is cooking us up some fresh takes in ways we never could have imagined.

Speaking of imagination can we please take a moment to appreciate the lush, unique, and creative descriptions found in these pages? The Unseelie lands and the Dread Court simply came to life and it felt so effortless and flowed so well despite the incredible tension from the plotline.

We revisit two characters from the previous book, though I'm still mighty curious what our Louisa and Lir were up to during Clara and Fin's little adventure, and meet many more familiar, yet brand new faces as well. (But we don't give away faerie names without their permission.)

Alice, however, grew on me so quickly– she was like a little psychotropic mushroom, herself. I have to admit I really, truly loved her and her journey and I really, really do not want it to end here. I need and am so excited for more from her, the Rabbit, and their Cat.

I will note this installment felt a notch or so more intense in terms of dark themes as well as spice– but you won't find me complaining just be sure to check the list of trigger warnings before deep diving, of course.

To sum it up– we've got another fresh one from the Queen, herself. If you loved the first you're sure to love the second (character development and redemption for our baby Sugarplum!) because it's served up just as hot and delicious. Even if it's a little less…sweet this time around. Like the Sugarplum Faerie, it's a different flavor this time, but just as tasty.

Okay let's just get it out of the way, again, that Rebecca is my Queen and rarely ever does me wrong okay? I trust her with everything. Every. Thing.

And I've been so, so excited for this one especially because we've heard about the Gods before in this universe, Arawn the most if memory serves. I knew the one who captured his love would have to be special and she is. She really is.

The storyline was beautifully inspired by myth and tradition while also staying so unique. I had no idea how it was going to end and by the time I felt like I had it, the entire thing went into a direction I hadn't thought of. And that doesn't happen often in my experience so of course that's one of my favorite parts.

Oh boy, was that ending cheesy? Yes but it's like ordering a cheese pizza. YOU EXPECT IT TO BE PRETTY CHEESY OKAY. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM THE GOD OF DEATH HERE? Always, it made me cry and I loved every second.

Once again my Queen proves why she owns me heart and soul.

Wow.

I am blown away to be quite honest.

I loved this duet far more than I expected and a great deal more than I probably should. Not sure what that says about me but I'm okay with it at this point. I'm not ashamed.

The story culminated so beautiful all while the story explored the complex relationship between Mara and Cole as well as their own respective backstories. I had no idea what was going to happen but it was perfectly wrapped up in a nice, neat, little bow.

I loved this story more than I can say and I love Mara and Cole just the same. These books had me obsessed and I'll be chasing the feeling they gave me for a long time.
