I should stop trying to read historical period pieces. I was bored, I think the writing would be good if I enjoyed the genre.

I HATED this book in the beginning. I was definitely thinking I would DNF it. However, it sucked me in! I really enjoyed the magic system, the politics, the spice (there was not a lot as most of the book was tension building).
I will say however, I did not love the FMC. She felt a little flat and one dimensional. And so incredibly indecisive. I can't explain why I loved the book, but I think Lach being so protective and snarky was a big piece.
All in all, it was a fun quick read after you get through the first half a dozen chapters.

This was creepy, gross, and confusing. I felt unsettled and wanted to hide from the baddies. I really enjoyed the writing. The author really made you feel. There were lots of times I felt my skin crawl.
Definitely a good one to read if you enjoy some body horror, mild gross horror. Just be aware that it does involve children, so if you're sensitive to that, do not read this book.

Okay listen, I don't read a lot of Juvenile fiction as an adult. But this book gave even ME the creeps and I read extreme horror. Jeff Strand does an amazing job of making you feel uneasy and uncomfortable without a ton of gore. While there definitely is SOME gore, it isn't excessive. It is definitely appropriate for elementary school children.
If you have kids that are starting to show interest in the creepy, scary, weird, etc... I would definitely recommend this book to them. I will also be recommending this to the kids in our library that enjoy the genre.

If you are a dark romance reader, give this a shot. If you are a contemporary romance reader, PLEASE CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!!!
There are a lot of possible triggers, especially regarding religion.
That being said, this book was HOT HOT HOT. I enjoyed the reverse harem of tattooed bad boys. There were some plot points that didn't quite hit for me, but I definitely enjoyed therevenge against the priest that locked Romina up in the tower .
I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the story itself and how invested I was in seeing Romina come out on top.

I was given an ARC from NetGalley. I've been a bit obsessed with T. Kingfisher and I've read almost all of her books. I blew through this book very quickly. It was equal parts weird and exciting. You definitely empathize with the main character and want to cheer her on when she tries to leave. There are moments of terror when you think her mom will destroy her .
I give this book 4 stars because I enjoyed the plot, and the character development. I also really enjoyed the sister and how she immediately saw through the mother's charade.
I highly recommend this book.
