Not sure why everyone enjoys this so much. The characters aren't enjoyable, the story was very confusing, and I wish there was more world building just so I could understand how the magic works.

I...found this book very difficult. I'm not a fan of 2nd person perspective, and so much of this book was written that way. I also feel like there wasn't nearly enough world building or explanation for what was going on. It wasn't until the last 1/4 of the book that anything began to make any sense. I'm struggling to see why people enjoy this series so much, though I will read the third book in the hopes of something making sense.

Not my favorite Timothy Zahn Star Wars book, but I did enjoy this all the same. Mara Jade is one of my favorite characters in the Legends canon of Star Wars, and I love seeing her in anything. However, the story feels a little meandering at times, and the Hand of Judgment storyline isn’t as compelling as anything Zahn writes with Thrawn, and it’s the least compelling of his Mara Jade storylines. Still a strong story, because it’s Zahn and Star Wars, but not the best.

Once again, Seanan McGuire proves why she’s one of my favorite authors to date. This has the same kind of evocative and lyrical prose as her writing as Mira Grant, but the same kind of wild things in the real world feel of the Toby Daye series. I don’t know what it is about Seanan and Berkeley, but she really needs to stop putting that poor city through fantasy nonsense. I’m fascinated by this world and excited for the next book.

This was such a fun, quick listen. It was great to see such a good representation of both demisexuality and anxiety. Obi-Wan is such a sweet little bean, and I love him so much. This was also a very good way of showing how becoming one with the Force is supposed to work. Kiersten White really understood the assignment with this one.

I am still so torn in how I feel about this series. On the one hand, I really like the world, the magics, the creatures, and the mysteries. On the other, I am getting really tired of the relationship drama. There were so many times where Fortuna was getting down and dirty with one of her harem of love interests and all I could think was "this is neither the time, the place, nor the emotional state for this". All the romances are incredibly toxic in one way or another, which makes me not want to root for any of them. Fortuna's constant guilt-tripping was also getting more than a little annoying by the end. That and the ending fatigue really killed me.

As much as I like the world of this series, I am starting to get a bit tired of Fortuna. There's a lot of focus on trauma, and while I appreciate that Fortuna has actually gone to a therapist this was not as big of a selling point for the series as I was led to believe it would be. I also feel like this book suffered from the same ending fatigue that The Return if the King film had. There were multiple times in the last ten chapters where it felt like this could be a good ending to the book.
Again, I like the world, and I like the magic of the world. But there's some issues with the style and the characters.

This was a bit of a rollercoaster for me, and not necessarily a good one. Frankly, I kept feeling like I was getting whiplash from the plot changes. It felt a little like the author had several smaller mysteries that didn't have enough meat to them to maintain a single book's plot. I appreciate how much this series focuses on trauma, but I did constantly want to strangle Damon and Fortuna both.
I also wish there had been more of a trigger warning before the last three or so chapters.

Another win from Katee Robert. Sexy, intense, and an amazing reinterpretation.

Not the strongest romance I've ever read, but it's light and fluffy and fun enough. The obvious parallels with the fandom rage at Game of Thrones (especially the issues surrounding the characterization of Nikolah Coster-Waldau's Jaime Lannister) are a bit amusing, especially as someone who stopped watching GoT before season 4. I like Marcus and April's relationship, but I'm not exactly sold on how they got together. It's a bit too rushed, and while I like the little insights on their online interactions, some of the fanfiction and script tidbits felt unnecessary (I completely skipped those). I'm not opposed to modern romances, I just don't always want reminders of the modern era in my escapism. Still cute.
