Another good book by B.A. Paris. It’s definitely a slow burn but I flew through it. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. I’m not saying I liked them as if we would be friends but I liked them for this plot. Iris and Gabriel came home from holiday to find their friend Laure had basically moved in after leaving husband Pierre. And the girl got on my nerves. I kept screaming send her to a hotel already. I couldn’t stand someone getting in my stuff and leaving messes. There are several characters but I found it easy to keep up with. I 100 percent never expected the ending. But it explained everything and if I were to go back and re-read it I could see it coming. The book had a steady flow the entire time and then wham bam!!!! I loved the ending although I did feel like the epilogue was too long. I see a B.A. Paris focused podcast in my future. I’ve read all her books and they are all very good and I would recommend any of them.

I adore these short Amazon original stories. They may be short but they will evoke just as much as emotion as any other book. This one will make you angry and quick. I loved to hate Janie. We all know manipulative people but I am pretty sure I don’t know anyone quite like Janie. Hannah and Christopher Bauer adopted Janie after she was brought into the ER where Christopher worked. Janie was a tortured as a child and endured a tragic childhood leading up to being adopted. But Janie destroyed their lives in ways no one could imagine and now she is out of juvenile detention and telling “her” story. She has written a book and she has turned into a beautiful confident young adult. The Bauer’s want nothing to do with her at all but she’s making it hard to avoid her. What happens next will shock your socks off! Again this is a short story so you can sit and start and finish it within an hour. It’s a great little read. My only complaint is I wish it had been longer. This would have been a great novel. It would have been an easy story to develop more. I also didn’t know this was a sequel to The Perfect Child which I own but haven’t read. I can’t wait to read it now and wish I had read it first. I’ve read you didn’t have to read it first to understand but I’m sure you could have understand better what the Bauer’s and Janie had been through. If you are a member of NetGalley this book is a “read now” so go check it out.

Holy smokes Batman!!! Sally Hepworth has done it again! I finished this book in one day. Which granted I was off from work but I couldn’t do anything else but read. I had to know what happened in that house!Jessica owns a successful home organization company and is married to Phil. Occasionally she steals. Norah has anger issues and uses men to get what she needs. Alicia is a social worker with a heart of gold. A detective calls to inform them bones have been found under their foster home and all three are pulled back into their horrible childhood at Wild Meadows Farm. This book has a little bit of everything even humor. Yes as dark as it is I laughed out loud several times. I loved Norah’s anger issues the most. I adored these women and somehow she managed to develop each one of their characters to fully understand how each one felt. This is one of those books where if I say too much I’ll ruin the twists and let me tell you there are some doozy’s. This book has a dual timeline and goes between now and what happened to the girls while they were in the foster home. It has a dark ending and while I don’t usually point out triggers in my reviews this story definitely has some. There is one thing I never understand and if you know please explain but why did Norah always say “it’s Norah with a ‘H’ No ‘T.’” I don’t get it. That said this is easily one of my top 10 books for the year. I have read every single one of Sally Hepworth’s books and always anxiously await her next one. Without looking back I feel like this will be my favorite but I plan on ranking them next week. Next week’s podcast will be devoted to Sally Hepworth and we will take a look at each one of her books. This is a definite must read as all her books are.

I’m so glad I requested this book. This book had drama, mystery, humor, real-life and it was a very relatable book. I also really like books where you don’t know exactly who has died. From the beginning you know someone has been killed but who? They just drop hints along the way. And my goodness the cat situation is hilarious and Mrs. Rodgers always acting frailer than she is to get by with things. But it also tackles the seriousness of sexting between teens and the lengths parents will go to to protect their children. And also the lengths parents will go to when they can’t believe their kids would never do anything wrong. I loved these characters and I loved to dislike these women. I totally thought I knew what was going on but the twist came at me out of nowhere. Lots of surprise twists and confessions. This is a solid read and it’s a heavy topic mixed in with enough humor so that it’s not overwhelming. I’ve never read anything by this author and I very much enjoyed her writing style.

Is it a ghost or just complete madness? It’s a fast paced creepy read that has you questioning what is going on the entire time. Which I love. I adore Simone St. James and this her first ever short story and she did an excellent job at telling an entire story in such few pages. Ginette is an unreliable narrator because she has no clue what’s going on in her head. The author did an excellent job telling an entire story in such a few pages. I loved how wrapped up in her neighbors lives she is with pretend names and everything. She even gets the detective involved and Andrew the boy who delivers her groceries. It puts off Rear Window vibes. This is a definite must read plus it’s so short you can finish in one sitting.

Meh. I could take or leave this book. I can’t say I liked any of the characters. Julia was married to Jason and was best friends with his sister Sienna. It felt like at times that Julia cared more about her relationship with Sienna than her husband. The book is very repetitive…..very repetitive. Very repetitive. Get it? Sienna worked my last nerve with how blindly she defended her brother. I did appreciate Julia for seeing things as they really were. Sienna was over the top angry and thought her brother hung the moon while Julia repeated over and over never a trust a man. Something she learned from her mother. There were so many loose ends and things that just were never expounded upon. Jason’s car accident was one. What happened? Who knows. Gavin’s shady business dealings. I’m not sure if that was to describe what kind of person Gavin was but the character was never developed and it ended up just not being important. Aiden, the son, knew something but wouldn’t tell. That whole relationship could have been brought out more. The ending was as lack luster as the book. I didn’t feel like anything shocking or surprising happened and when you figured out who the killer was you were basically just waiting for everyone else to catch up.

If you have followed me for anytime at all or listened to my podcast you know I don’t like series books. But I have made an exception for this series. They are a cute mystery series with a little humor thrown in. I think you should read the first book which is Finley Donovan Is Killing It before reading this one. It definitely builds off of the first book. In book one Finlay is mistaken for an assassin for hire after having a conversation about a book she is writing with her agent in a restaurant. So this book picks up where book one ends. I don’t feel like there are any twists or surprises in these books. Just a fun mystery series with a divorced woman and her nanny. I think in my review of the first book I described it as giving a Lucille and Ethel vibe. And there’s nothing wrong with that. These would be great beach reads this summer.

The Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. Most people assumed 17 year old Lenora did it since she was the only survivor but the police was never able to prove it. Lenora has never spoken about that night nor has she ever left Hope’s End. Fast forward to 1983, home health aide Kit McDeere is sent to care for Lenora after her previous nurse fled in the middle of the night. Now Lenora wants to tell Kit everything that happened that night. Holy smokes Batman! This is definitely a twisted tale! It’s a very creepy fun thriller. The state of their house is terrifying. I would be fine with Lenora or even ghosts but not living in this house with the chance of it tumbling into the ocean at any minute. The author did an outstanding job creating the creepy atmosphere….the crooked crumbling house, the Maine coastline and the suspicious staff all worked beautifully to create a dark, gothic mystery. One that that stood out to me was them making Kit wear the nursing uniform and how formal everyone was with each other. But gosh the secrets these people hid were something else! It’s very fast paced with good character development. I couldn’t wait to find out what really happened the night Lenora’s family died. All of the characters are a little sketch and you can’t really be sure who to believe. There were at least one or maybe two far fetched twists thrown in but I accepted them for what they were and moved on. I loved this book…and I can promise you I won’t be buying a house on a cliff anytime soon.

I couldn’t wait to read this book. When I read the summary for this book I knew I would love it and it was even better than I thought it would be. Emma Carpenter lives in isolation with her dog Laika. She is house sitting an old beachfront home on the Washington Coast. The only human contact she has is her old neighbor Deek and she occasionally texts the house owner Jules. Deek sends Emma a book to read “Murder Mountain” and as she finishes it Amazon asks her for a review. She hated it and wanted to choose 0 stars but it forced her to choose a 1. She teetered in whether she should post it or not but in the end posts it and leaves to take Laika on a walk. She returns 2 hours later to a comment on her review from the author H.G. Kane and he asks her to remove the post. This book gave me chills and chapter 14 will leave your jaw hanging and you screaming what?!? The twists and turns in this book are shocking to say the least…it’s a very intense thriller. Just when you think it’s over it’s not but the story worked well with the long ending. You will root for Emma the whole time! The story is a little wild…the fight scenes are a little over the top but the author made it work. This will be one of my most favorite premises. I loved the storyline. While writing this I discovered Laika was really a space dog and then made the mistake of googling it. This is a spoiler but you’ll thank me for it….Laika lives in this book because if she hadn’t I would have given this book 1 star. But sadly in real life Laika was a stray dog found on the streets of Moscow. She was launched in Sputnik 2 on November 2, 1957 and was the first living creature to be shot into space and orbit earth. The ship was destroyed as it re-entered the earth’s atmosphere.

Author Rachel Hawkins is a mixed bag for me. I really liked The Wife Upstairs, couldn’t finish the Villa and Reckless Girls was terrible. But she has redeemed herself with this book. It was very good! This family is twisted to say the least. There are lots of bombshells and secrets. The best part is the letters written from Ruby. I will say the book can be confusing at times but it nevertheless kept me hooked throughout. It’s a short read and while there could be more character development I felt you had enough information to enjoy the book. Ruby will remind you of Evelyn Hugo with all her husbands and I wouldn’t have minded more written about them. The plot is unlike anything else I’ve read before with the twists and bombshells. Its publication date is January 9 and I feel like this is a winter read. Do you ever read books that you feel like should be read in a certain season? Just me? Well this is a winter book.
