Don't Cry for Me by Daniel Black

3.5

I don’t know if this counts as a spoiler, marking it anyway. Wow, this book is emotional. I don’t cry while reading books, and this one got me close. I didn’t, but it was close. The ending, especially, when you notice Jacob’s tone slowly changing as he knows he has less than a week left and shifts the narrative from the best moments he and Isaac shared along with the worst moments of his life to constant reminders for Isaac to live freely. The emotions are conveyed extremely well and it’s truly an incredible book.
Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi

Genuinely one of the most intriguing stories I’ve read in a while. The character development is top notch, and the plot explores different topics while staying cohesive. I already love Gyasi’s work in general, and Transcendent Kingdom is no exception!
