the idea of this seems so interesting & the translation quality is incredible but unfortunately it just didn’t hold my attention at all

this honestly felt like a less polished speedrun of “my husband is suffering from a terminal illness.”

from the mc being a
transmigrator
with a hidden ability to heal the ml’s terminal ailment to the ml being a rich & cold-faced business tycoon who ends up being betrothed to them to the mc getting involved in show business & very quickly rising to the top
to a large focus on the use of weibo & social media opinion of the mc/ml together
to scheming family members & scheming entertainment industry members
etc.
etc.

everything about it felt extraordinarily similar, except for the personality of the mc & the speed at which everything occurred. mhisfati definitely had more subplots & moments for the mc to shine as well as more moments for the mc/ml to more subtly build feelings for each other, while this was a much less convoluted plot that follows a basic three act structure where the characters fall for each other almost immediately, have one main conflict, & get it all very neatly tied together at the end with a relatively rushed happily ever after.

i was also personally really disappointed about the
transmigration twist
because i was looking forward to seeing more of 036’s past being revealed & the scientists getting their comeuppance as opposed to it being disregarded really early on & not really brought up much again.

however, overall, this was a super quick read that i could definitely see people enjoying, especially as a quick palette cleanser or if you’re looking for a storyline similar to mhisfati without as much outside plot going on (the main conflict here is entirely internal, as opposed to it being about outside scheming), more angst related to the whole hidden ability aspect, or if you were disappointed by the fact that there was
no true ability/transmigrator reveal
in mhisfati; you do get that here!

i’m gonna be honest i’m so disappointed at the whole plot twist at the end

like this would’ve been a solid 3 or 3.5 star but the extra honestly left such a poor taste in my mouth in regards to
nanzhu playing w qiushi’s head like that & literally stealing his entire life??? just to fulfill his own wishes & everything. like i just genuinely can’t get over the fact that the qiushi we follow thinks he has no family who loves him & feels incredibly isolated & then we see him meet people who care about him & who he falls in with & feels like he finally has a place with only to find out that he was never isolated & alone?? nanzhu just made him feel that way by literally manipulating the entire world around him & putting himself in this place of power for qiushi to look up to & revere when it’s literally just him stealing qiushi’s own accomplishments & family & friends & it just makes the whole story feel icky to me idk

also this is such an unpopular opinion but my favorite doors were the ones that lin qiushi did on his own (i think the river ghoul one is still my favorite; i just loved getting to see him actually reason through things & figure things out w/o nanzhu just feeding him info the whole time) & i wasn’t a huge fan of nanzhu in general (esp. after reading that first extra & getting the entire story recontextualized)

i did like the mc quite a bit but i just wish that the story focused a bit more on the characters’ inner thoughts because absolutely everything was conveyed through dialogue & body language instead of actual thoughts & feelings & it made me feel very removed from the story & the characters, especially when it came to their romantic development.

with such a smart character at the helm, we should’ve been involved in more of his thought process when scheming & interacting with other people as opposed to just seeing what he ends up doing & how everyone else reacts to it.

i also think it was a huge missed opportunity not to explore mc’s previous life experience more. like it could’ve been such a cool storyline to see him deal with ptsd from literally living & dying in an apocalyptic world but instead it’s just totally glossed over?? & we never get any information about his past life or how it’s affected him in this one. it very much feels like it was just something that the author tacked on to explain why he also has an ability, but it wasn’t done very well & left the whole story feeling very unfinished to me.

i honestly did end up skimming through the last fourth/fifth of this because i think it starts going downhill when the author tries to get into the more “serious” aspects of the plot.
but i did really enjoy the first half & thought it was just a really cute, funny ride for the most part! just try not to think about the actual plot mechanisms too hard.
