A much tighter followup to the series starter, less waffle and less need for character introductions. An enjoyable mystery and pleasingly cerebral, not sanguine. I'm looking forward to book 3

A very fast-paced addition to the series. An interesting riff on a sadly too plausible scenario, this one was a pleasant break from the extreme graphic violence common in many of the others.

Often entertaining, and at times informative, this was a somewhat predictable memoir. I am sure it will resonate much more with Antipodeans from either side of the Tasman, for obvious reasons

Not the most satisfying of her stories. The unfinished mystery, with all it says about Arthur Nicholson, and the ugly Lomax mess rather disappointing

A delightful introduction to the series - sweet snd short and positive. The lead pair were lovable and the series arc has been well set up.

Not one of my favourite Dalton's the complete absence of likeable characters made reading it a somewhat academic exercise.

The character of the female "villain" was given an interesting back story, and the titular chaperone's arc was satisfying. But the ending felt rushed and I would have liked to see the "bad girl" given more time for self-reflection and personal growth

The three books in this omnibus advance the series well. The last one is probably the tightest and most tense.

A genuinely amusing look at the "rules" of English writing. Entertaining but also informative, it's reasonable and balanced - mocking petty prescriptivist pedantry without mercy but also acknowledging that some guidelines and shibboleths have their place. Highly recommended for anyone who loves language, not so much for any who love trying to legislate language.

Personally I found the cutesy joeky style a touch overdone, but it was still an interesting read and I did learn some stuff, so 4/5 from me.
