What a roller coaster. This book flew by and made me so emotional. As a teenage iCarly lover, this was an eye-opening read in terms of contextualizing Jennette's life and experiences. I was amazed by her resilience and vulnerability in sharing her story. I was also fascinated by the behind-the-scenes look at the set of a popular network TV show. I've never kept returning to an audiobook so often (and read one so quickly). Jennette's writing style is punchy, emotional, and just the right amount of descriptive. Her narration of the audiobook is deeply personal and moving.

Such a cute book! The illustrations are gorgeous, and the story was heartwarming. Some of the cool words the main character knows, I hadn’t even heard before! Thankfully there’s a great glossary of words used in the book on the very last page. If you’re reading to a little one, I imagine it would be super helpful because it outlines pronunciation as well. Great way for adults and kiddos to learn together!

This author has a strong, clear voice - pretty + at times poetic style. The plot felt very understated and gentle, which is why I think I didn’t find myself reaching for it super often. But overall, I enjoyed it!

Not what I expected in some ways! I thought this book would solely be focused on gender roles both at home and in the work place, but this book expands to many other topics (some that felt kind of random). Kind of felt disjointed at times, and the drawing style wasn’t my favorite. The translation seemed good but I wonder if it might have had more of an impact in its originally published language. Some chapters that really stood out to me include: .”You Should’ve Asked,” “The Story of My Friend C.,” and “The Male Gaze.”Overall, I think this book addressed a lot of important topics in a digestible way.

Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

When I say this book had me crying everywhere I listened to it, I mean EVERYWHERE! In the shower, in the car, washing dishes…you name it. I was a puddle by the end of this book and I loved every moment of it. The audiobook version was heart wrenching and, for me, difficult to get through at times because it made me so emotional. Zauner narrates her story with such raw honesty - it is subtle, painful, and deeply moving. And MAN can she describe food in a way that makes my mouth water! Moments that I will be thinking about forever include: everything about that wedding, the process of making kimchi, and the various trips to South Korea she describes. If you want to have a good cry, put on this audiobook!
