This book was everything I expected and more. It was beautifully written and to be able to experience Haymitch’s games from his perspective was truly breathtaking.
I laughed, I cried. I loved revisiting old characters and seeing how much they impacted Haymitch and the start of the rebellion.
I loved the message of how the media and propaganda only tells the story they want to tell… even if it’s not the truth. This book has a very important message for readers and I highly recommend you read it for the message Suzanne writes so beautifully.

I found the storyline to be overall very interesting. The characters were likeable and relatable in different ways. I liked hearing about the different abilities each Avid had and seeing thes abilities strengthen and develop over time.
The storyline moved at a face past and I personally didn’t find anything part of the storyline that dragged on. The plot and writing style kept my attention throughout the story. Very interested to see what happens next for Kat in the future.
Oh and the little ghost dog Mischka throughout the book? I loved this little addition.

I don’t give five stars out easily… but this one is well deserved.
I absolutely loved the representation of disabilities, but physical and mental throughout this books. As a chronic migraine sufferer who struggles with anxiety, it was amazing to relate to a character who struggles with the same ailments as I do. I also found the idea of disabilities and how they are portrayed in the book extremely relevant to current events.
The world building? I’m a sucker for world building and I loved hearing about the different regions, what each region was known for, and how their cultures differed. The religions and ideologies were also intriguing.
I loved both of the main FMC’s - they’re both strong in their own way that can definitely compliment each other. But I’m guessing we’ll see this more in future books. I also loved seeing them growing within their struggles to learn more of their own strengths and how to overcome their problems.
Overall, this has become a favorite book and I will recommend it over and over again. K. V. Meadows is an incredibly storyteller and I was shocked to see this is her debut novel. She writes as someone who has had years of experience. I can imagine that it will only get better from here!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The plot was very well thought out and written. It was very “Witcher-esque” with the theme of hunting for monsters in a foreign land with elements of fantasy and magic.
Loved the dialogue and interactions between the MMC and FMC. I’m not usually one for dual POVs, but it was pulled off well within this storyline.
Would absolutely recommend this to other readers, especially if they enjoy shows such as The Witcher, Shadow and Bone, and October Faction. Looking forward to the second book!
I wish given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you love when the romance is the main plot of a book with some dragon elements, this is the book for you.
Personally, this book wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. I absolutely loved the forbidden romance aspect. The tension between the two main characters was great. I loved the writing style.
But somewhere along the way, I realized I may have mis-interpreted the premise. I was expecting more dragons and fighting. There was some, but as stated, not what I was expecting. I never fully got engrossed in the story.
The author’s writing style is fantastic and I loved how she wrote, but the storyline just wasn’t for me. I still plan on reading the second book, just to see how things resolve. I’m also expecting there will be more action scenes, considering how it ended.

This was a fun, quick romantasy read. There’s some world-building, unique magic, and legends of dragons. It did take me a little while to get into it, but once I did I was hooked.
I’m interested to see the character development and progression of the plot in the next book.

I was hoping this would have some insight for adhd and after dark activities, but it did not. It was just statistics. Nothing really helpful in the book.

This is my first ARC and let me tell you, I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
This book had me captivated pretty much from the start. It has all the elements I love seeing a book: fantasy, combat, enemies to lovers and a slow-burn. I was hoping for more romance, but I’m sure we will see it in book two.
The storyline was very intriguing and while I’m not a huge fan of third person perspective, Gretchen does a really great job writing in this style. Overall, I give it 4 stars.
