I’ve read this series twice and all I can say is this book is by far the worst writing out of all of Sarah’s work. I really loved the storyline but the writing seemed much more unrefined compared to the later books in this series as well as ACOTAR.
But even despite this, I LOVE this story. The characters and the world draw you in and you just can’t help but getting caught up in the excitement of the competition and the romance going on behind the scenes! I thought that this was a great first book to the series and although the writing wasn’t amazing, it was cool to see Sarah develop her style throughout the entire series!

I really enjoyed this book! Like, really enjoyed it! I really love the characters and how Marie Lu wrote from both of their perspectives, and THE CHEMISTRYYYYY. I'm here for it. I thought this book had a perfect pace and it kept me engaged throughout the entire thing! I read this book so fast holy cow.
One thing I will say is reading this book during a global pandemic was a bit spooky given the plot line and I think that aspect really made me dive into it more than I would have if the world wasn't in such shambles.
I would have given it a 5/5 stars except that I guessed all the plot twists before they happened! Which I hate. I really enjoy when a plot twist in a book catches me totally by surprise and unfortunately this book didn't manage to do that.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to pick up more of Marie Lu's writing as I really enjoyed her writing style and characters. :)
