Amazing work by John Carreyrou and kudos to his editors at the Wall St. Journal for staying with this story. The story reads like a thriller or a horror movie; reading about these talented people who joined the company with good intentions and then realizes that the empress has no clothes practically had me shouting "get out before it's too late!" One of the best business books I've ever read.
An enjoyable sequel to Winter Tide with new complications and new antagonists. Looking forward to reading more in this universe!
Fast-paced and very enjoyable. An interesting take on the "mission gone bad" story - if I knew Hollywood wouldn't mess it up, it would make a great movie.
Another enjoyable outing with Murderbot and its new friend ART. In between binge-watching serials, they help Murderbot find out secrets from its past and save Murderbot's clients. You'll want to come along on this ride!
This is a gripping, intense read. I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. Definitely for older teens, as it has war, bullying, and different forms of abuse.
Problematic, but very readable. I feel like the author is trying to graft modern themes (anti-racism, attitudes towards psychotherapy and medication) on to a historical story, and the graft doesn't quite take.
Starts out a bit slower than the first two Murderbot stories, but packs quite a punch at the end. Looking forward to Murderbot #4!
Really interesting concept - post-apocalypse, gods and demons walk the earth. Now I want to read her short stories and am very curious to see what happens in the next book.
I enjoyed the first book, but too much of the second book depends on what Roger Ebert called the Idiot Plot: "Any plot containing problems that would be solved instantly if all of the characters were not idiots." So much of the story depends on characters being idiots, and after the jail cell scene, I gave up and skimmed the rest of the book, just to see how it ended. Also, Sage continues to be just a little too perfect.
Very enjoyable take on the Lovecraftian world. I'd love to read more in this universe from this author!
