Very different than the Imperial Radch books, and very enjoyable. I liked Ingray and her friends, and the whole concept of the story was intriguing.
Highly enjoyable; now we're familiar with the characters and we care about what happens to them. Can't wait to read the third book!
Amazing true story combined with amazing art.
Fast-paced and a fun read. 1 part mystery, 1 part science fiction, 1 part sports industry = a very entertaining story.
A fun read, but there was too much focus on the subsidiary characters - it feels like Rachel and Nick are barely in the book. Kitty and Eddie subplots were entertaining in the previous books, but there was too much of them in this book. Also, I started to get a bit tired of Astrid and Charlie's star-crossed romance.
I really enjoyed the first half of this book, where the protagonist goes to Sinegard, the elite military academy; the second half, full of war and brutality, was much less enjoyable. Also, I didn't realize that the book was the first of a series, so I was expecting more resolution of plot points.
I got this for my daughter and ended up reading it myself first. Great fun and I look forward to reading more by F.C. Yee!
Grim throughout, though ultimately hopeful. Wraps up the series nicely, with plenty of room for further exploration. I found the second book a bit of a slog, but this was very readable and engrossing.
I enjoyed this book very much! A delightful mix of magic and comedy of manners with plenty of plot points to explore in further escapades.
