Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

I shockingly really enjoyed this one. I felt like it moved at hyper speed when we were skipping through time, but the emotional depth of the relationship between these two really shocked me. I love a man obsessed and Rowan was so obsessed with Sloane. I loved seeing these two flourish. Didn't love the third act "breakup" element but thankfully it was over fast. This was fun, gross but also fun.

Oh no, this ended on my actual deepest fear in life. This was good. I didn't get super invested but I had a decent time with this one.

This book has me giggling and kicking my feet. I was obsessed and felt so deeply for these two characters. By 60% the book started to feel a touch sluggish to me so it started to take away from the story. Things I didn't like include how long it took these two to communicate their feelings and I didn't love the sex scenes. Idk what it was but they felt a little cringe to me. Overall a great time but maybe a touch too long.

So cringe. It's just bound to be a 3 star or less mafia book for me so I'm okay not finishing this one.

Just a reminder to myself that body horror really gives me the creeps. Maybe that's part of why I wanted to read this one lol. I also love a diverse writers take on horror so I did find it lovely to get to see more about the AAPI community but I don't feel like I learned anything new. For me, I don't think this is a story that will stay with me but it was an interesting ride.
I think there was more to explore here especially the shit with their father so I left this feeling like I didn't get enough. Also the ending with her in the hospital felt so out of this world lol. Where were the police? Just felt a little fat fetched at times and her victims were not all bad people so I didn't love the ending.

I'm really glad I re-read this one. It honestly feels like a masterpiece. I am so excited to start Oathbound in a few days and see where this story goes. I honestly forgot so many minor but important details. Sel, my baby. I'm rooting for him so hard. It will be interesting to see if we get more of Nick in book 3. I'm just blissed out from this one.

I was laughing at the start of this book. I found it relatively funny but my rage built so deeply for Matt. He sucked. He was not a good partner and he felt very self absorbed. I don't think we saw any character growth for him at all. His life was very woah is me, everything just keeps happening to me as if he doesn't have any autonomy whatsoever. I do not understand why or how Grace could stay in love with this man. This was miscommunication to the maximum. This just made me want to scream. These two absolutely do not belong together. I only finished this because I paid for it. I hated it.

I understand what this book is trying to do with regard to the building a new relationship after abuse but other parts of this story are just not all that great and so I'm sure this won't end up being highlighy rated for me so I don't really want to continue. I just don't find these mafia romances to do it for me. I need more legit high stakes bullshit not men who are like so big and bad but own a regular ass business where they're just assholes to their employees. Like I'm okay. I just don't think I'm into boss x employee romances anymore either. Also find it a little icky that he knows it's her and she doesn't and I don't think that really sets them up for success....I get why he would hide it but yeah it's my least fav.

The dialogue in this felt cringe at times, but overall this was a good little low stakes monster romance. I did laugh a few times at the start of the book, so it was decent. Might read the next book in this series.

I'm still not sure that I liked this one. We'll have to see how the second volume pans out. But right no I just think it's okay.
