this gets massive points for 1. being a greek myth adaptation that is Not Boring and 2. acknowledging the diversity of language and culture involved in the trojan war. i wasn't always completely hooked on the prose, but overall i think this book is doing really cool and interesting things with myth. the end had me completely riveted--it's kind of impressive when a retelling of the iliad manages to have an unexpected plot twist while still following the plot of the iliad.

I thought I hated literary fiction but it turns out I just hate literary fiction about cishet people. Either that or this was just a really good book.
