I love Hazelwood. Her characters feel so fun and authentic.

I was enjoying the book rather well and would have continued this series until I got about 3/4ths of the through. And Daphne definitely rapes Simon. And the author definitely glosses right over it, normalizes it, and ultimately makes Daphne the victim.

Bother overwritten and underwritten. It fell very flat for me.

There were some scenes where the author does a great job of creating and building tension, but overall I was a wee bit let down. I liked our main character, for the most part, although unreliable and a tad…dumb? I felt frustrated at some points with her confusion.

Funny and confusing. Themes of motherhood, transformation, womanhood, and personhood.

I really really enjoyed this story. Mira is a fun MC who wasn’t overly annoying or contrite. There were a few weirdly sexual jokes that I didn’t really feel worked in this context. However, I will definitely be reading more from this author.

A fascinating listen/read. Bruchac is officially one of my favorite authors after this one. A fascinating and personal account of Thorpe’s life, at no point was I bored.
