While the pace of the book is quite slow, I enjoyed the authors use of descriptive imagery. Her metaphors were a bit heavy. The first third of the story had me, I was invested in the early life of Anya. As soon as she meets Peter though the entire story came to a crashing halt. I almost didn’t finish. Thankfully the final part (although predictable) redeems itself.

Such a slowwwww pace. Want to revisit at a later time.

I really enjoyed this story. The MC is relatable and likable. I also think the illustrator makes phenomenal use of color, line, and shape to create visually interesting panels. This is a funny little read for middle grades.

Very diverse cast of characters in this book. I enjoyed reading about Aster. The story is a thinly veiled euphemism for trans kids. I like this story, it feels fresh and unique. I would definitely like to read the rest of the books in this series.

Okay, so I love the potential this storyline has. I'd probably write my own fanfic/spinoff if I took the time. However the author makes several references to the MC being rich, thin, white, and conventionally attractive. Not only did this immediately turn me off, and alienate me from being able to relate to the MC, I was also bored by it. Come one! Give me some diversity, bring in some characters with various backgrounds and insights. It was very "wattpad romance" . The sexual tension felt forced.

Lovely little YA graphic novel. LGBT+ friendly. It's about a girl learning to accept herself for being gay. It's also a play on the traditional story of selkies/the little mermaid. Realistic illustrations of diverse characters.

Not a bad read. It's a good historical fiction book for middle grade readers. Plot took a while to progress. The author spends a solid 40-50% of the book with them on the road back from Deerfield. Nothing particularly good or thought provoking however.

This story was hard to get into and hard to follow. I see the potential though and would like to try a reread when I'm not in such a...romance head space.
