“Letting go isn’t about forgetting. It’s balancing moving forward with life and looking back from time to time remembering the people in it.”

I’m literally a sobbing mess having just finished the book. The last like 20% in particular really pulled at my heartstrings. I absolutely loved this book so much. It has definitely joined my “books I wish I could read all over for the very first time again.”

I do wish the book was longer. I found the story to be so interesting, so a full length novel could’ve really given it more room for details and world building, but I still really enjoyed it.

I have to be honest and say I nearly DNF’d this book. Warren was a real piece of work for like the first 40% of the book. I’m all for grumpy/sunshine, but I was not vibing with him for nearly half the book. I decided to stick it out because I really enjoyed the previous 2 books I read by Hannah and thankfully I ended up warming up to Warren a bit more. Despite this book not hooking me in the way Out on a Limb and Set the Record Straight did I’m still very much keeping my eye on releases by Hannah.

I think dark romance isn’t for me. I’m just gonna go back to grumpy, goofy, nerdy fictional men now, thank you.

My biggest take aways are: does Scarlett know pastries other than beignets exist? Also what’s up with all the giggling, like can we please find another word? Looooord. I’m not sure why that bugged me more than the overuse of the “demon of music” and “pretty muse” nicknames did, but I had a “giggle” counter going and decided to drop it after like the 5th time I read that word.
The plot was very predictable and I had guessed the ending of the book by the time Sol and Scarlett met so there’s that. The beginning was fine, the middle was kinda boring and dragged quite a bit, and the last 30ish percent of the book was also fine, though again no big plot twist or big reveal — just the story kinda hurriedly wrapping it all up.

I was really wanting to LOVE this book, but it didn’t quite grip me as much as I hoped. It was still a good fun read though, just didn’t really hook me in the way I was hoping it would.
I did see myself in Ari perhaps a little too much though. Afraid of commitment? Yep guilty as charged. Perhaps that’s why she was quite frustrating, but still relatable.

Ali Hazelwood has done it again! Something about her stories, the wit and humor is always right up my alley. This book was so goofy at certain points, but it was exactly what I needed.
