Honey: A Novel by Isabel Banta

BEAUTIFUL. Such lyrical and emotional writing. Crucial but complicated female friendships, first love, and expression of sexuality. This book felt like summer

Aside from the awful title, the ANNOYING main character, and the very plain writing style, this book was actually good by the end. I wasn’t a fan of many of the characters except Hudson, but I thought the plot did pick up and that there was an important message to it all. Also just an interesting story that isn’t told very often. I think the whole ‘cheating ring’ thing was so silly and blown out of proportion, I can’t imagine something so minor would’ve actually kicked off everything that happened to Maddie, but sure, it’s fine . I liked how Maddie turned out in the end and that Jo still didn’t forgive her, because she shouldn’t!!

Juniper was actually the most pathetic mc I’ve ever read and I LOVED reading about her life falling apart❤️it didn’t feel at all like an RF Kuang book to me and I had to keep reminding myself that this was the same woman who wrote Babel — I loved both books in such different ways. The ending of Yellowface KIND of let me down because I feel like June experienced no development at all but I can see how that was probably the aim, and how this ending is just meant to imply another beginning. It’s exhausting thinking about how lame June will continue to be even when the book itself is over.
