for starters, the dialogue is clunky and never lands. I found myself cringing after almost everything the characters said or thought to themselves.
- any big plot detail lasts for only a moment.
- the pacing is so off that you never get to sit with anything unless you physically stop reading the book to process it.
- there’s practically no depth to either character and they aren’t fleshed out at all. we hardly know anything about them and from what I do know, both of them need to get an actual personality and fast.
- in my opinion, there’s no chemistry between the leads. he’s obsessed with her for reasons that should be worked out with a therapist and she just likes having sex with him. there’s no real reason they should love each other or even be together. they don’t even seem compatible.
and finally, both of them are too young for me to even take this book, and the things that happen to them in it, seriously. this makes me wonder what the target audience is given that these are high schoolers yet the book is a dark romance.

now that I’m two books into this series and a little more invested in the drama and these characters, I’m starting to understand the appeal of both the books and the show. can’t wait to finish reading the series and then watch the show to see what’s different

there were some things I would change about it but for the most part it was ok. I’m right in the middle of the spectrum for how I’d rate this
