God the dialogue was so good. Quick-paced and witty, and everything was so raw you can't help but believe even the craziest things that happen. The best part is, it's 500 pages but it only covers 5 days. It just offers so much backstory that you really get a feel for what the book is trying to say about this group of friends.
I like how it's a quirky teen fiction book and yet they didn't censor it at all, like there's some subject matter that would be for older readers but since it's a real part of life, the author left it all in the book. It makes it a good book in my opinion.
Sort of amazing. John Irving has a way with poetic justice for his characters that makes you smile even though some of their fates plain-out suck.
Plus, I like how he can speak of the profane without making it sound like profanity but instead just like a part of life.
