Wow. This book started off strong with the first story, and then I kind of lost it after the second for a while, but in a monumental moment of beauty, everything came together at the end in the best way possible.
The thing about Stephen King is even in his heartwrenching stories, stories that aren't necessarily conventionally scary, you can still find fear. In Hearts in Atlantis, he makes you feel the pain of a life wasted, the hopelessness of missed chances. As a young adult, this only makes me realize how much more the future is in my hands.
So way to go, Stephen King, for once again keeping me entertained with a wonderful story filled with f-bombs and bad jokes and also making me think.

I was really doubting whether she'd ever find a happy ending... the book meanders quite a bit, but very few novels can make someone's whole life seem interesting, and at the same time hysterically funny and devastatingly tragic. The writing was good, and for a male author, he really knows how to get in the female mindset, my GOD.
It got a bit farfetched and slightly mediocre, but maybe I'm too old to be as gullible as I need to be for random kids' fiction. Oh well. It was worth the read.
Didn't disappoint. =) Somehow the book tackled the stupidity of middle-school without making the kids or their situation seem stupid at all. Just looking back at that time in my life, there was so much going on... and the book accurately summed up all those issues that try to take you down when you're thirteen.
