Not a huge fan.
Yes I know it's a classic and all that. But it bugged me that much of the story was not exactly about Oliver. Sure, there was mystery and some adventure and a decent plot but the fact that Oliver was not exactly a main character really threw me off. Maybe it's Dickens' writing style (this is the only book I've read of his so I don't exactly know these things) so maybe it's normal for this type of literature... I really liked Nancy much more because at least she was willing to take action and in the end stand up for what she felt was just.

All of these were hilarious. Reading these for the 80s/90s pop culture references alone was great. Plus a lot of it's relatable.
I liked this book because it offered more character depth especially in Sunny and Klaus as they wonder if the desperate measures they have taken throughout their plight have perhaps made them a bit manipulative and possibly even villainous. The plot buildup, as well as character structure, gains much strength through this book. Can't wait to read the last five again.
Took me weeks to finish this for a reason. The story was just too sad to me, and not in a poetic way but in a WHY DID YOU DO THAT YOU JUST MADE YOUR WHOLE FAMILY MISERABLE FOREVER way... it just didn't sit well with me. And all the really poetic, lyrical description the author tried to stick in there didn't seem all that poetic and lyrical to me because of the way the plot came off to me. Oh well.
Took a while to make it through this one. It's not exactly my favorite, but obviously I can't hate it either because this whole series is great. This one actually was kind of cool to me just because there's so much hidden irony I didn't pick up on when I was a kid. It's great.
This is where everything with VFD starts happening... excitement.
