I finished this book in 2 days. It had me captivated.

Having said that, A Heartless Hunter was better overall but this was a strong conclusion to duology. The pacing was good. There was a great balance of action and heavy plot "down time" without any of the parts causing the story to have a whiplash effect.

I am docking a whole point for an otherwise 5 stars as Rune and Gideon has some serious plot armor. They were caught or just one of them, and/or the other one was caught. One or twice would've been fine but it happened too much that the stakes set up later didn't have the same effect on the reader.

I really enjoyed Elm and Ione but the story lacked Ravyn and Elspeth. Even the conclusion when Elspeth was back in control, we get only a few paragraphs of them united
