This book was so good and so much more than I expected! I listened to the audio for it and it was great. I love the setting and the magic system and Nicolai is a FANTASTIC morally gray character. I also really liked Camilla and feel like the pacing of her character progression was perfect. I was hooked immediately and finished the book in a day. I also jumped immediately into book 2.

This was a fun, quick read and extremely engaging. I don’t think it’s too soon to say I can already tell I’ll be reading this one again, probably multiple times.

I truly loved this book! It was fast paced and highly engaging- I couldn’t put it down once I started, and more than that, I didn’t want to until I knew what was going on! I loved that it kept me guessing while leaving little bread crumbs hidden amongst the POV changes. The way the story was constructed had my jaw on the floor with the twists and turns and that is the best experience with thrillers!

The way the topics of grief and trauma were incorporated and portrayed was refreshing to me, because both of those things bring complex emotions that vary from moment to moment and person to person- they’re not clear cut, black and white things and I appreciated that they were woven into these characters’ stories in a way that reflected that. The characters were interesting and flushed out well. I appreciated the depth the story gained from experiencing things from multiple characters’ perspectives.

By the time things came together, I started to make the connection myself from the information I was providing while reading, however that did not make it any less shocking for me. I love books that can make me audibly gasp while reading and this did that. It was a great, quick read and I really enjoyed this one, it was absolutely worth 5 stars.

This book was SO GOOD. I loved everything about it. This was written so well. I loved the characters and the development as the story progressed. The conflict was something that anyone can relate to no matter your circumstances, and it really made me think but not in a way that made me work too hard.

Defy The Night is an incredible start to the trilogy and I can’t wait to crack open book two. I can already tell this will be a series I return to often, definitely a five star read!
