Yet another great book in this series. I loved the detail in this one, it really upped the stakes from book one and gave a lot of background story building that helped me better understand the world, the gods, and the characters.

I felt the emotion deform each of them all the way through the book. I was confused, angry, exhausted, emotional, and conflicted, but all in the very best way. I love feeling this kind of connection with the characters in the books I’m reading, it helps me feel invested. I also found that there were a lot of moments that caught me by surprise in a good way.

This trilogy is turning out to be more than I initially anticipated. The wait for book three is going to be difficult!

I had high hopes for this and I think that maybe they were too high. I did like this, but it wasn’t what I expected when I started it. It felt a lot more political and much slower paced than I was expecting.

I also struggled to connect with the characters and found myself not really rooting for anyone. I am a heavy mood reader so it’s entirely that this was just not the book for me at the time of reading.

It was well written and I think there were some interesting elements, but I was left with a lot of questions and wishing for more.

Francis O’Dowd has woven together a brilliant story of courage, friendship, and overcoming obstacles that sometimes include those of our own making. I absolutely loved this. The witty and unique writing style coupled with the quirky characters worked together wonderfully to create a memorable and exhilarating story, from which I couldn’t look away. In addition to great character development and engaging story progression, the illustrations are fantastic and really add to the experience.

This series has been incredibly fun and endearing. I was given the opportunity to read both books in this series (Porksreach Rapscallions) between last year and now, and I’m incredibly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to share my thoughts on such wonderful and unique books. These feel like the kinds of books that teach life lessons in a way that will stick with the reader long after the story ends.

I loved this so much! Necromancy magic? Yes please! I also really loved how poison is used and explained in this world. It’s so unique and the writing style is so great.

Bastion, Gabe, and Lore are all great characters with unique strengths and flaws and I appreciate that they are all relatable in some way. The lore of the magic and gods in this world are written in such a cool way that I ate it all up.

This was a good western romance and I really enjoyed the commitment to the writing style. It transported me to the Old West and felt very immersive. The imagery was good and descriptive so I was able to clearly visualize what was going on. At times, the story felt a little repetitive but I really enjoyed the characters and the journey was as wild as the Wild West, with lots of emotion and an underlying theme of hope when life feels hopeless. There was also a strong message of the bonds of family, both blood and chosen, that was an excellent support to the story. If you’re a fan of historical fiction, especially that set in the west with some light romance mixed in, you may really like this!
