When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

4.5

Reading this felt like someone reached into my chest, pulled out my heart, and then tore in half with their bare hands. Then, said heart-ripper didn’t think that was good enough and went straight for my soul.

I have never felt so many emotions- EVERY emotion- at such maximum height within just one story. My post-read hangover is so strong that I feel nauseous and empty yet yearning for more. My god.

The story itself isn’t perfect, but entertaining. I don’t love the MC (I’m a little over the angsty misunderstood FMC archetype) and being edgy for the sake of being edgy gets an eye roll from me but after a few chapters it evens out along with some of my other nit-picks. There were some fun twists and turns, the magic is interesting, and the characters have a lot of depth.

However, the story TELLING is phenomenal. The story telling is what changed this book from what I expected to be a casual popcorn read to an oh-my-god-I-can’t-get-enough read. This author made me feel every sensation possible with such a force it’s like I was living the story myself.

Absolutely recommend. I might fly to the sky and turn to stone myself with the anticipation of the next book eating away at me.
