Boo. I was extremely excited to read this, especially being a shark and Jaws fanatic, so when I saw this I couldn't resist. It was a quick and fun read, and did satisfy my ocean and "shark" cravings. However, the random romance thrown in between Chase and Amanda (basically in the last pages) seemed too convenient and easy to make a quaint ending. Also I couldn't help but point out so many things that were similar in both White Shark and Jaws, so it didn't feel as original as a Nazi amphibian war machine killing on land could've been. I guess I got out of it what I wanted, but that ending just was....meh.

This book took me quite a long time to get through and I almost gave up. It wasn't because it was boring, I just could not sit still and read anything!

I am so thankful I did not give up on Shadow of the Wind, because it is one of the most beautiful and moving books I've read.

The language, the characters, the mystery and horror and build up of the story, EVERYTHING. It was absolutely perfect. I've never tagged so many inspiring lines in a book before. This book put into perfect words how passionately I feel about stories and books. I have never felt so understood by something.

I cannot stress this enough: PLEASE READ THIS BOOK.

I literally cannot explain how disappointing this book was and how much I disliked it.

(I have so many feelings I need to express about this book that I will be editing as I go, so apologies for having a partially review for a little bit.)

First off, the characters were completely flat and unbelievable. I didn't care about them whatsoever and never related to them. Teenagers just do not talk or think like that. There was no growth, no real change to any of them.

And as for the characters' relationships with each other. Pudge + Alaska = SO AWFUL. First off, Pudge just cannot help to keep reminding the reader of how hot Alaska is, THEN comments on how she reads a bunch and quotes poetry. C'mon, man. We get she's beautiful and you've got the hots for her. We do not need some objectifying language about her cleavage everytime you hang out.

And Alaska. Oh Alaska. You are so absolutely tortured and annoying. I understand she had a terrible and scarring incident happen to her, but her behavior was just uncalled for. She was simply, as many other reviews have pointed out and I cannot high five them enough, another mysterious manic pixie dream girl to help Pudge realize his Great Perhaps or whatever he was angsty about.

The only character that did have some meat to him was The Colonel (which, did we ever understand why he was called that? Can someone explain?). I appreciated his character because he had a bit of depth, at least.

While I'm also randomly thinking about it, the Southern drawl and language of Colonel's mom, the cashier at the liquor store and other randomly placed Alabamans? Totally totally totally not even believeable. It just emphasized how "smart and cool" the main characters were, and just made me angry.

Let's not forget the ultimate prank of pranks that was so built up to be this totally awesome and historical thing that literally lasted two pages and then nothing was said about it ever again.

And that huge "after" mystery that Pudge and Colonel try to crack about what Alaska was doing? SERIOUSLY. I called that from the very instant Alaska hopped up and started screaming and ran out of her room with Pudge and the Colonel just sittin' there, dumbfounded.

Oh, John. This is my second book of yours I've read (The Fault in Our Stars the first, of course). I enjoyed FIOS enough to try out Looking, especially since so many friends recommended it. Do I even try to move on to Paper Towns or An Abundance of Katherines?

I'll be honest, I gave up on this book long ago. My friend recommended it to me and warned me that it was cheesy teen romance, but I like that every now and then.

No. Not this time. The characters were bland, the dialogue was unrealistic and the interaction between the main character and her werewolf boyfriend was cringe worthy. Especially when he started making up song lyrics for her, that's when I couldn't go on any longer.

So beautiful, an absolutely perfect birthday gift. This is going on my nightstand to be read all the time.
